There is no real difference between either, except for Mac and Windows and what they are used for

Windows: I would say is for general use

Mac: Mainly for Graphics, video and music editing

Mac is good, as less viruses target Mac. Also, one of my friends got a macbook for xmas (the lucky cow!) and I've used it. I personally thought it was a lot smoother and had great usability (I love how all the program icons are along the bottom of the screen!) However, I do think macs are a bit pricey. You can get PCs or laptops with similar specs for way less!

I've used both. Mac is definately more user friendly. I never get spam or any junk. I never get "computer rage" since I use a Mac.

The Mac is very user-friendly, yes.

But don't think the Mac is incapable of functioning as a general computer. Right out of the box, you have Safari for internet, Apple Mail, iChat for IMing, iTunes for music, and even a backup program (Time Machine). On the a/v side, the iLife suite which comes on every Mac has iPhoto for pictures, iWeb for creating web pages, Garageband for making music, iDVD for making DVDs, and iMovie for making movies.

Also, I may want to mention Front Row, a nice little extension for audio/video playback which comes on every Mac.

Also, some of the same programs you might run on Windows (Microsoft Office) have an official Mac port.

There are even a selection of games available for Mac OS X.

Contrary to popular belief, the Mac is really quite a stable and capable operating system.

The thing is, if you want a Mac, you really have very very few options. You can either get:

A high-midrange laptop with a 13" screen for over $1000
A high-end laptop with 15-17" screen for over $2000
A gimped mini-PC with low specs for $600
An iMac with built-in screen starting at $1200
A desktop for over $2500

While none of these is specifically a bad deal (you more or less get what you pay for in the hardware department), they have nothing targeting the average user who needs/wants a basic, inexpensive desktop machine. You can get a quality Dell desktop - with a good monitor - that has specs that match the iMac for barely half the price.

This I cannot argue with, other than the last statement. The screen which is built in to the iMac drives up its price, same for any AiO computer.

i have used a mac at work now for a couple of weeks the graphics cards just cant cope with a new game and the mac is fairly new and high spec... the quality can be fixed but it seems a bugger to have to f*** about with the computer for games.... also most of the god games are released for windows or xbox. i think macs are fine for everyday use, but i don't need something that looks pretty, i need something that can do any job any time.

Well, your personal experience with a single Macintosh cleanly extrapolates to cover the entirety of the computing world.

By the way: Macs can run Windows just as well as a regular PC.
