Upper left side abdominal pain

I understand I can't take any advice I might get from here completely seriously, but...

I woke up Saturday morning with what felt like a sore muscle on the left side of my abdomen under my rib cage. I thought it was strange because I hadn't done anything strenuous the night before (unless you consider drinking a 6 pack of beer and having a couple shots of tequila strenuous)but didn't think too much about it. It was a bit tender to the touch, but nothing unbearable in the least. Well, it has gotten progressively more uncomfortable the last two days. Now it is really tender to the touch all over my left side and middle, and it's starting to be a little uncomfortable when I breathe. It almost feels like gas, but it hurts when I push on my tummy. I've also have a bit of the runs since yesterday.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I looked up appendicitis, but that is on the right side and google search for upper left abdominal pain isn't really getting me anywhere. I have a regular check up with my doctor scheduled for Thursday so I am trying to decide if I should go in now or just wait...

Were it on the right side I would say appendecitis. I think you should see a doctor soon! It could be spastic colon!

Pain in the abdomen and chest area doesn't mean something is wrong right where the pain is. for example someone who is having a problem with there kidneys can be experiencing leg pain. Does it feel like a pressure, like someone is stepping on you?

Not so much like someone is stepping on me, but there is a pressure. It feels a lot like it does when you're really gassy, but gas has never made my abdomen tender to the touch before and it's higher than gas pain normally would be.

I have an appointment on Thursday. I'm just trying to decide if I should wait until then or if it's something I need to go in for immediately. I'm really swamped at work and will be gone all next week so I can't afford any time off, but I can't afford to end up in the hospital either. Not sure what to do...

No, not normally. It's almost always 120/75 when I go to the Doctor.

have you taken any aspirin?

No. I took some ibuprofen yesterday morning but I haven't taken anything since then.

if you have aspirin take that but if you have ibuprofen take more. They work as an anti inflammatory so they might help if you have a infection in your abdomen. There is a test called a merkle test. Stand up like you are in high heels and then come down hard on the heels of your foot. See if that makes the pain worse.

oh ok then its most likely not peritonitis. That is an infection of the lining of the abdominal cavity. You may have just bruised your diaphragm, that is the only muscle that is under your rib cage and breathing all the time could be making the healing take longer and by pushing on your stomach it would put pressure on it.

OK. So, in your professional opinion (:wink should I go ahead and go to the doctor or wait until Thursday?
