I was having a heated discussion during my political science class over whether or not democracy is likely to be adopted in different countries., if its even possible at all.

I pointed out that not only did i think it was possible, but i came from a country that actually did! Palau's constitution is less than 20 years old. It was signed in 1994! Still, she made points about how we try and "americanize" different countries, force our democratic views on others, and try and implement democratic governments in other countries.

So the question is, do you think democracy can be adopted in developing countries ??Why? Tell me what you think. kudos for good points!

We discussed this in one of my modules too, and my tutor was saying it's a battle between cultural traditions and democracy. I think democracy could work, but on the other hand look at Mugabe, who continually undermines democracy by attacking people who don't vote for him and refusing to resign.

its called sarcasm.

i think it can if the population of that country wants to have a democracy then they should be able to be freely choose what kind of government they should have it should not be forced on any one, it should be offered and if that offer is refused then the people will have what ever government they want,.

Democracy can only be genuine if it deveops through evolution or revolution, imposing it from outside is unlikely to work! It did work with the defeated Japanese who had little experience with it before their defeat! The Germans on the other hand, had a history of democratic traditions before their defeat!
