I strongly recommend reinstalling Windows after any serious virus infection, especially if you don't already have virus protection installed.

You should use another computer to download the latest version of (and definitions for) a good antivirus (such as AVG or Avira), a good antispyware (such as SpyBot), and a rootkit detector. Reboot Windows into Safe Mode, install them, and run full system scans.

I really would recommend installing a virus scanner that are free, and know what file to delete, if any.

If you go into your control pannel, depending on what kind of virus it is, and weather you run vista or XP, you can manually remove it by checking out your list of programs that start up austomatically when you turn your computer on.
(MS config) just /run it.
Anti virus programs don't always work, so if you can find your config and look through for anything suspicious etc.
It just takes a little common sense.

download avg, for free, you cannot get it on the home page for free
download from computeractive run it and with a bit of luck the
virus as not affected the system files if it as then you will
have to pay a company like symantec to get it out good luck.
