Is anyone here under the impression that Apple restricts the type of hardware (specifically video cards) you can put in your Mac?

I dunna.

Maybe because you are limited in the type of hardware you can put in your Mac.

That fact, however, is not because of Apple.

Normal Video cards are designed to work with BIOS

Macs don't have BIOS.

Well, I dunno, but it certainly sounds like you're literally trying to start an argument or pick a fight.

Well, it does kind of sound like it, doesn't it.

Really, I was wanting to dispell another myth, however, it looks like this one hasn't been started up here.

I did hear someone tell me that however.

So is it a myth that Apple restricts video card upgrades or not?

They don't have to.

Typical video cards simply aren't compatible with the Macintosh because their firmware is programmed to work with BIOS.

Since Macs don't have BIOS, and instead either use OpenFirmware or Apple EFI, the video cards are naturally incompatible until they can be flashed. And I don't see a way to do that.

So basically, if Apple tells you what video cards you can have, they're only saving you cash.

Not true.

Most games wouldn't work on my Mac, but any of the newer Macs have bootcamp to simulate BIOS so Windows can run.
