My self-esteem was sucky when i was a young teen, but it got loads better as the years went by. But I'm going through a pretty awful time in my life and my self-esteem is back down to where it was before, or even lower. Does that fade with age?

Mine has steadily grown. I think it's being influenced by such strong and beautiful women in my life.

I do think that it can be influenced by what's going on with you though..it ebbs and flows

i gonna guess that it goes up and down throughout your entire life... during the good streches in your life, your self-esteem will be better than during the crappy phases...

Mine is the best it's ever been. I think it's cuz all the crap I've been thru. I survived, I'm standing strong and I have great friends who support me.

no i think there are like points to it, like a bell curve, young ones have issues then in your 20's it smoothes out a bit and then you start getting wrinkles and grey hair and it gets bad again, iunno its different for everyone tho

I had a hard time with my self image until just recently. I didn't want my picture taken or anything. One day somebody caught some good shots in a photo session, and I'm over not feeling good about myself.. I didn't like getting older, but now I think that I've gotten better. Especially when someone ten years younger asked me out. I'm married, but it sure felt good.

Yes, self esteem comes and goes with what's going on in your life and by the people you keep company with.... If you have positive influences around you, your esteem will be higher than if you're influences are negative ones....In my opinion only of course!!

I meant to say it before, but the media has skewed the toughts about beuauty so much you can't help but get nervous. There are thousands of weight loss products, and now you need revitalist and eye cream and how dare anything sag. Men get compliments with their salt and pepper hair, women buy Lady Clairol. It's not fair to put that much pressure on anyone.

I think it gets better as you get older...

I believe that it gets better, I'm more sure of myself now than I was two months ago, but why do we have to be with someone? Why can't we feel good about ourselves on our own. I learned that the hard way when someone kept badgering about what I looked like. They found out, too late.I've always refused to be judged by my looks, they're superficial and they constantly change.

For me it is so random.
I am confident in who I am as a person for sure.
As for how pretty I feel, that depends on the day.

Its definitely better but it never really goes away completely. You care much less what people think about you on the outside and think more about the person inside of you.

As I've got older I've started to accept myself more. I've got faults, had failures but we are what we are. Some days I get on my own nerves or berate myself for not doing this or that better, but overall I muddle along. I certainly feel less need to conform as I've aged, which is a relief.

I agree! I think you can do things in your life which will also affect how your esteem is.
I had no esteem as a kid/teenager but now I'm a bit older I've done a ton of things which have upped my esteem, there are things which kick it down again but it's about how you deal with it that determines everything.

Mine was shattered by past events that happened, but over the last few years it has increased, and am very pleased about that. It does flucuate sometimes, but stays much more even now than it did years ago
