OK so I'm on my mum's laptop now and she says that she wants to reinstall Windows so that she can start fresh with her laptop again...

Only problem is she wants me to do it but I'm not entirely sure how to be honest

I did it to my laptop using a "recovery disk" that the dude in the computer store did for me.

I tried it in my mum's laptop and it didn't work lol.

So, what to do? I'm stoopid

the disk you have is probably made specifically for your brand of computer. My boot disk that came with my laptop says it won't work on other computers.

you can either try to get a new one from the manufacturer of your computer, or buy a new OS install/upgrade, like at Walmart or something, which should work on any PC.

Well, I'm sure the dude in the computer store made a recovery disk for my laptop using just my laptop lol, but I don't know how he did it.

did he give you a boot disk or a back-up disk? if you want a clean slate you need a boot disk from the manufacturer.

Some brand name computers such as Dell or HP have a recovery partition on the hard drive... You may not need an external disk to do a "system recovery"
Perform a search on the computer for "system restore

you can call the manufacturer and they can mail you a new one, I don't know how much/if they charge for it though. Or you can buy a new OS install that works on any PC.

I don't think I have to pay for it, I'm sure there was a programme on my laptop that created the recovery disk but s*** I don't know what it is. Grrrrrrrrrr

You can use a windows O.S. CD for a desktop on your laptop, the problem is that you would have to upload some of the drivers for that machine that the right disk would normally have. I had a similar situation and had lost my CD, got a desktop one and reinstalled. Took me a week to find the right drivers online though.
