@chelsea_59 Said And have Georgia tax payers pay for a murderer to live in prison until he dies?
How come no one has any emotion toward the victim in murder cases? An innocent woman is DEAD b/c she was African American. She had her life taken from her b/c of her race. And her murder left her child motherless.
Any idea how it feels to lose a parent?? Any of you??
First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your father. And no, I don't personally know what it feels like to lose a family member.
These people do, though. I honestly can't say if I would feel any differently if I were in your/their position.
However I would imagine that if someone in my family were killed, killing another person would never be enough to heal the pain I felt.
Not to turn this into (another) debate on capital punishment, but just quickly...I'm a little uneasy with the state actually killing human beings, especially when such a system has resulted in the execution of innocent people. Capital cases are much more expensive than non-capital cases, and I feel like this money could be spent on things that actually work to deter crime, and/or on therapy for victims' and murderers' families.
To me, removing a convicted murderer from society through life imprisonment is enough. I don't really see the need to go the extra step and kill, while spending the extra money and risking the execution of innocent lives, when it doesn't really have any benefits.
It seems that with capital punishment, killing guilty people takes priority over protecting innocent people who get caught up in the system, and that's not the way our justice system should operate.
