Ancient Rome, didn't have any prisons

You shouldn't have said 'an eye for an eye'
at least not here on tfs

I'm thinking the death penalty is a good thing,
A hate crime is a pretty bad thing, but killing someone cause
of their skin color, isn't any worse then killing someone for their money.

I agree. The term "hate crime" is riduculous to me. ALL violent crime is hateful and deserving of the same punishment. To me anyway.

So now we need to destroy more environment to build more prisons, find more people to run them, and make tax payers pay more.

Seems lousy to me.
Keeping a murderer alive is ridiculous.

Give me one good reason we should keep murderers alive.

The sad thing about building new prisons is that they provide employment, usually in rural areas that need new jobs to help the economy.

It would also be a waste of time, money, and resources. The economy would be much better with less prisoners.

Exactly... and tax payers wouldn't be paying to support murderers.

Motive often comes into play during criminal cases.

Motive is typically used as evidence to prove a crime, not add time to the sentence.

Thats not totally true.
Motive does play a part in what sentence you get.
Killing your wife to get her insurance money,
is a lot more evil then killing her cause she's cheating on you.
You go to prison either way,
but the differences in the motive,
could be the difference between a life sentence and a death sentence.

Not really. You would be sentenced for killing your wife, the reason you did it wouldn't be a separate crime.

It really Is, I wouldn't lie.
The difference between murder and manslaughter is motive.
Thats just fact.

I didn't say it isn't, but motive is not a crime. It's just evidence of your intent to commit the crime.

As it does have a pretty big part in what and how long you get sentenced with.

And have Georgia tax payers pay for a murderer to live in prison until he dies?

How come no one has any emotion toward the victim in murder cases? An innocent woman is DEAD b/c she was African American. She had her life taken from her b/c of her race. And her murder left her child motherless.

Any idea how it feels to lose a parent?? Any of you??

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your father. And no, I don't personally know what it feels like to lose a family member. These people do, though. I honestly can't say if I would feel any differently if I were in your/their position.

However I would imagine that if someone in my family were killed, killing another person would never be enough to heal the pain I felt.

Not to turn this into (another) debate on capital punishment, but just quickly...I'm a little uneasy with the state actually killing human beings, especially when such a system has resulted in the execution of innocent people. Capital cases are much more expensive than non-capital cases, and I feel like this money could be spent on things that actually work to deter crime, and/or on therapy for victims' and murderers' families.

To me, removing a convicted murderer from society through life imprisonment is enough. I don't really see the need to go the extra step and kill, while spending the extra money and risking the execution of innocent lives, when it doesn't really have any benefits.

It seems that with capital punishment, killing guilty people takes priority over protecting innocent people who get caught up in the system, and that's not the way our justice system should operate.
