does linux have a *64 bit operating system?

to use more than 4 gigs of ram normally requires a 64 bit os
does anyone know if linux has one and is it worth using
open source rules but is still behind with support though that seems to be changing now
programers see how big a uptake there is

You can try Fedora there is a 64bit version. 8)
