I've read thread after thread about how people hate liars and would like people to be honest and so on. Then when someone is honest with them they get all defensive and perturbed about it, what's that all about?, Is it OK and considered acceptable to lie if it's to spare their emotions, but just horrendously wrong and evil to lie otherwise???

I really don't understand the double standard here at all. Anyone care to explain this to me, because to me a lie is a lie, no matter in what context it is used in.

There's hypocracy in all of us lilbear. I guess it just follows along the lines of "human nature" just like rest of the dirty crap that humans have tagged onto them

The truth can sometimes hurt worse than a lie, and people don't always know how to deal with it.

im not the type of person to lie or be 2faced or b****y..
but sometimes thats a big problem for me..
because im so honest to people they take it the wrong way most of the time and we ed up falling out..

i dunno wether its me being too honest or just them not being able to handle the truth!!

altho my best friend molly loves me for it haha. coz she knows she can trust me

You have to be careful with this one, it's good to tell the truth but in a way that won't offend the person.. We all have our style and many people like the truth but not in a nasty way then again those who are brutally blunt get a lot of respect even if it's hard to handle.

I can't stand 'yes' people though, those who go along with anything and say things just to make someone happy.. I mean it's fine to make someone feel good but a constant thing drives me wild.. lol get an opinion instead of agreeing with every single thing

I find it is much easier not to lie. I wouldn't be able to remember what I said. However, I have learned not to be brutally honest. I will answer a direct question truthfully but I won't give more information than is asked. (Ok so I have lied about my age on my profile, but that's a privacy issue, I change my age often)

So is it considered a lie when you omit certain facts? I always ask myself what results will happen if I tell the whole truth? Does the person need to know, will it hurt their feelings, etc.?

everyone wants & respect honestly.

but sometimes it can do more harm than good if hurting someone........hense comes a little white lie.

EX: If a friend walked up to me and said, OMG you have really put on weight!

I would rather them say, hey how's it going, good to see you!

EX: Can you come to our place for dinner Saturday?

I do not want or feel like going..............so I say,
sorry, we already have plans.

EX: Wow your new boyfriend is handsome!

meanwhile thinking, oh god he's ugly!
