Does anyone know how alcohol affects this condition in the bowel?

My boyfriend sufferes from diverticulitis and despite this, he gets really drunk once a week, every week, sometimes twice a week. Always the next day he is in the loo constantly and its sometimes yellow (so he tells me). This week, 3 days later he is still crippled with pain and is blaming everything else but the alcohol and says the doc told him alcohol doesnt affect Diverticulitis.

Any thoughts or sites that I could check this out?

Thanks

You can find plenty of information about how to prevent it and the causes and whatnot, but not whether certain things make it worse. Kind of stupid really

The information says that alcohol doesnt affect it directly. But then it goes on to say that diahorea (can never spell that), isnt good. But surely excessive alcohol causes that, which then causes more pain with the diverticulitis? It would make perfect sense to me to have a healthy diet and be without pain? Must be a man thing lol

Ask anyone with a hangover, alcohol affects the bowels of even the healthiest person. I imagine with a bowel disorder it could be worse.

Seriously your boyfriend needs to join an alcoholic session as evertime this happens his stomach acid is burning parts of his stomach lining. This will cause ulcers and even worse unless he sorts it out. If this is not possible then get his doctor to prescribe Nexium tablets as these coat the stomach and control the acid.
