Given that over half of all marriages fail, doesn't it make sense to involve the lawyers in the beginning of the marriage instead of at the end?

I think that all couples should be REQUIRED to have a Pre-Nup.

The best part of this - right off the bat - would be that the argument that a Pre-Nup 'kills the romance' would be moot. Un-romantic or not, it must be done.

The Pre-Nup itself should be set up just like a living will where every possible situation is listed with the couples' desired outcome...Like - if we have one kid, I will have him on the weekends and you during the week and every other summer is mine...etc. Also all permutations regarding money and property would have to be considered.

The real beauty of this is that the happy couple would have to sit down and really consider the consequences of divorce. If they actually go through with the wedding after all this, they might try harder to stay together because they won't want the consequences.

Or if they do end up divorced, at least they have somewhat eliminated 'The Unknown' - which is the real scary part of divorce.

This would really help the children in the divorce too - because their parents wouldn't be quite as frantic during the divorce.

What do you think?

i duno i dont personally agree with pre nups, if you get married you shouldn't think this could very well end in divorce.

it is a good idea in theory, but when you are all stary eyed and have wedding bells in your ears you never consider the down side. what if we divorce doesnt come in to the general conversation often cos both parties gaze at each other and see rose coloured pictures and tell each other that will never happen.

The idea of pre-nups to me seem to indicate that they don't expect the relationship to last and if thats the case then why even get married.

If someone told me they wanted a pre-nup I'd be hurt. It's as if your partner doesn't trust and doesnt see the relationship lasting the distance

Pre-nups go against what marriage is all about. Strip it back to the minimum and all it says is "I dont trust you". Thats not something I would be happy to base a marriage on.

Famous people, yes. I can kind of understand it. Why should an actor whos worked for 40 years lose out to a gold digging b**** that married him only for money and the relationship only lasted a year???

Pre-nups to me are a sign of how little faith you have in yourself, your partner and your relationship.

I agree with a form of pre nup.. where what you earn during the marridge is what is split in a equal fair way. Bit like the Paul Macarney situation, she should only be entitled to 50% of the money he made during the marridge..

But the thing is Lawyers are f***ers in divorce, there should be a clean split divorce, where everything is split 50-50.. no questions.. and off they go.. The arguement that annoys the crap into me, is that normally its the female that has had to bring up kids. and normally they get a nice cut plus a maintenance to support her for the rest of her life maintaining there life style... Reason? because they had to give up a career to look after the kids.. mmmm... fair or not.. let you decide...

The McCartneys are due in the court today to come to a settlement. Surely Sir Paul hasn't earned ?160 million in their few short years together?

If he has happy days give her the ?80 million she wants and he's well rid of her.

Not child maintenance, thats a different payment.. this maintenance is to maintain her lifestyle.. pay her mortgage, pay for her car.. and a type of wage per month.. Alomoney?? i think its called.
