I was just reading up on stories about gays, and some of them show how some of thier friends wern't thier friends anymore because they were a homophob. I mean, whats the big f***ing deal? Your a human being, you look the same, dress the same (in most cases), and you pretty much do everything a straight person does, exept you like guys.

What is the big deal?

I HAD a friend that turned out to be a homophob and he was saying:

"I f***ing hate gays, I want to lynch them and burn thier asses to the ground"

That just made me think "kay ur not my friend anymore"

Honestly I dont know how society got this way, from trends or roumors.

Allthough I thought it started in the 60s? Cause of the whole "AIDS" thing. It started in gays then they were discriminated

I mean its all over now, we got condoms whats the big friggin deal?

I just cant stop to think will gays EVER be accepted without fear?

...well yes some are just plain fine with it, thier friends dont care but thats just a few,

I still have homophob friends, but they are still my friends cause we share the same interests.

When can society learn to accept gays for who they are and how they choose to be.

GAH! So complicated, yet so simple to learn

There will always be those in society who won't accept them for who they are. I personally believe in general society is becoming more open and accepting but like I said there will always be those who are against it.

I don't have a problem with homophobes, as long as they do it behind closed doors, and don't hurt anyone...

But yeah, I agree. This goes for all bigotry when you think about it.

The world be a better place when we no longer have to strive for womens rights, black rights, gay rights, etc.... Once we all just get the f*** on with life and treat people as people, regardless of race, color, creed, sexuality, then all people will be truly equal.

But all the time we even have to ask ourselves (is this sexist, is this racist) equality doesn't exist. We need to internalize equality so that you would no sooner discriminate against someone different to you than you would against someone the same.

We're making progress though. Just the fact that you can actually tell people you are gay and not have everyone against you is a huge step. Give it time.

i doubt we will see it in our life time cos those haters breed haters who in turn breed haters,i dont understand what somebodys sexuality has to do with somebody else,i dont get people move away from me when i say im straight so why should anybody else have to put up with s*** just because there gay,i hope it really does change while im still alive to see it.

its too bad when minds like yourself are scared of things that are right infront of you, things that are happening and will most likely affect your future, and think that would be better off having the truth sealed instead. You cant always run from the things that hurt you.

like some of the others were saying, that's just the way our society is. they just can't learn to accept differences, they want everything and everyone to be the same cuz it would make things simpler; unfortunately in the real world, things aren't that simple. i figure that people hate on other people because of some personal flaw; like they don't totally feel open and free with themselves, so they bash on others to compensate. it gives them a sense of power and they don't feel so inferior because of some dumb flaw. people don't understand that there is no such thing as perfect, much less normal; it's just perspective. like another person was saying, it would be nice, but i don't think we'll see total equality anytime soon, but you can hope and try to change others.

Food for thought. Because as much stigma exists with bigots as gays, the closet is much fuller than you think.

I'd like to think society moving forward in regards homosexuality and acceptance.

i think on a personal level though people can still find it really hard to accept that their friends are gay.

i think it threatens their sexuality or something, or they start to question whether their friends are sexually attracted to them, in the same way that close friendships between a man and woman can be seen as difficult without a sexual attraction there. or that people will talk and think they're gay too.
its a big thing for some people to deal with.
its stupid really.

but its one thing for people to say that gay people can do what they want freely and another to have the maturity to deal with it in your own life.

I don't think there is that much prejudice. Noone I know is has said anything remotely homophobic to me. I think most people don't give a s***. Thats certainly my philosophy about it anyway.

Homophobia has deep roots in Western (or judaist religious) societies and will continue to
until humans no longer exist.

Originally (In B.C years), it was just a general safety tip. To engage in sexual acts with
other
men (Lesbians were not really considered at the time) was a health hazard.

The diseases and general grotty nature of two cavemen f***ing was enough to make
people
call it out.

Of course, you had the majority of the men being straight and as all people can relate to,
what you do not understand, you either hate or are scared of.

That was worked into several lines in the Judaist Bible (the most commonly known being
Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13. )

But even then, they are rumored to be mis-translated lines, just as many more common
verses are. For others relating to homosexuality check out This site.

This evolved into society, where it just became an unspoken taboo. No bible verse was
needed to discriminate against gays, it was just immoral.

This was the legal and (generally) public viewpoint up intil 1967 in America and early
1970's in Australia.
To not discriminate against homosexuality was considered taboo, alongside
homosexuality itself.

Especially in more rural areas, homosexuality got a bad reputation for femimine acting
males. Rural areas, often full of gruff, working-class men would see "pansies" as wastes of
space, etc.
Then, when stereotypes of gay males acting in such a manner floated through, it just
focused the hate.

This is very much the modern case;

Misinformation about homosexuality and a need to fit in amongst peers will pressure the
modern man or woman into homophobia.

If people understood the details of it, the tribulations and the love, there would be no
problem. But many people don't want to. They just cannot see past "perverts" and
"Queers".

Which is a shame, it'll be a long time before GLBT rights are introduced globally. A very
long time.

And Jmo, this may not be the case, but the UK has a reputation for being a very homo-
friendly area. I'd say your string of luck has more to do with location than an actual
notification of the public's current opinion.

Oh, perhaps. Many people say that Scotland has a very accepting culture. Well, quite a few do, not alot of English people say that...

It should be known that the mighty warriors of ancient sparta would have sexual relations with each other. It was a form of bonding between them and built trust.

Yeah it mostly comes down to generalisations and stereotypes.

But they have a basis in fact.
