I built my last PC with components from www.scan.co.uk, they had good service, good prices and fast delivery.

I have the Linksys wireless cable gateway, and I find that it's great. I'm assuming the router portion of it is the same as in the standalone wireless routers, so I'd recommend you look at those.

You don't want to skimp too much on the router - after all it's the heart of your network and all your pcs will presumably be accessing the net through it. A cheap nasty router could well become a weak link in an otherwise good setup.

Huh, I'm surprised to note that scan doesn't actually seem to carry Linksys.

Do you want a router, or a gateway? The gateway will be both modem and router. If you just get a router, you'll need a modem as well.

Do you have ADSL or cable?

What sort of money are Virgin looking for their choice of router?

And is it a router or a gateway that you need? Do you already have a cable modem that you want to continue to use?

On a budget, I'd go with the Linksys WRT54GS, for ?44. It's G, not N, but for home purposes that should be more than enough.

I can't seem to find a decent wireless cable gateway on sale in the UK.
