I am fairly perplexed by those say "Christianity is like that anymore." Referring, of coarse to the Crusades, the Inquisition, etc. Also, those who say "Islam is a religion of peace." While I was pondering, I can up with an analogy:

Those who convert to Christianity, Islam, and many other religions would be the equivalent of some joining the Klu Klux Klan. This would take place many years after the KKK declared "They were no longer a racist organization that lynches people." However, after this declaration there exist a few that wish to keep the old traditions.

Just wondering if anyone else thinks it's a fair analogy.

Pft, Not to your analogy, this is just a thought, that most Christians are hypocrits. They follow Christ but do things that he was against. Like the crusades and burning times were all murders, not a holy war, just a massacre.

No because Christianity(according to Jesus anyway) was originally started as a peaceful religion and then changed as it grew widespread support so that it favoured the views of people at the time.
The KKK began as a violent organisation and has slowly adapted over the years to fit in slightly more with society but has not out rightly changed. Even if it were to suddenly declare itself peaceful it would not be maintained because its founding was upon violence and in the end that is what people will see on initial studying of it.
Christianity on first examination appears to be non violent. In the New Testament anyway.

I'm not a fan of either christianity or islam, but I think that's a bit off-base.

I think your anaolgy (all be it, unorthodox) is as accurate as they come. I for the record do not believe in god, but I do believe in the afterlife & in higher beings within other realms (eg, my passed away parents) But I will say that THIS IS MY OPINION so I do not ridicule anyone's belief. Good question Nathan. Good luck to you & all you care for. Regards, Mick.
