Ok I was out on the town saturday night, on the way home I met some homeless guy... Now I know most of these people are homeless through their own fault, but this one seemed really genuine I really felt for the guy as he was a mute as well and could only talk in sign.... Nobody seemed to give a fuk and it got me thinking, are we all to greedy? Are we all so obsessed with personal gain that we've lost all sense of caring, other than for those we know? Why does the government that is supposed to look after it's country reward the rich and discard the poor and needy?

On my 18th we went to London to party. We had come out of this top resturant and were heading to a club. This young girl must have been 18 had ran away from home because her step dad sexually abused her and her younger sister. Anyway, she didnt ask for money she just asked if we were having a good night.

We chatted to her whilst waiting for a cab and I was shocked that her local council would not support or help her unless she moved back in the house and then raised the issue. I mean WTF? They wont help her unless she goes back into the house with a guy that beats her and sexually abuses her? What kind of system is that?

The other thing I was appalled about is how much it costs to stay in a shelter for the night. Due to overcrowding they started to charge people at a rate of ?7.50 a night. Thats ALOT when you have nothing. Its as out of reach as 75 million.

Its disguusting.

I believe that there should always be a way of homeless people getting plugged into the social pipeline.
That sounds rough on the poor chap but should he not be in care?

I totally agree there treacle. I mean what are people supposed to do to be entitled to a half decent life, a roof over their heads and watmth for their bones? Continue to be abused, starved, assaulted?? It seems this country is more obsessed with war than peace. Care more for the fatcats and bigwigs, and less about the people that genuinely need the help that is supposed to be there for them. Sorry to moan peeps but this really gets up my back ffs

Like treacle said, it's hard to get even to a shelter nowadays... these ppl that make maybe 10 bucks a night can't afford ?7.50! And to get considered for a flat or bedsit there's a waiting list a mile long, while normal people have the pick of the housing ladder

Its not humane. People wouldnt expect you to treat an animal in that way.

Thats like the whole fasination with adopting babies and children from third world countries. Thats all well and good, but we have kids on our streets in need too.

Most of the homeless are there by choice.

Most of them are not, a lot of them are because of drug addiction and alcoholism granted but the majority want to get off. A program on telly here a few weeks ago followed one man who was homeless by choice but he went around looking out for the other homeless.

Agreed there. But there are some that are genuinely helpless and have no-one else to turn to. Those are the ones that break my heart when i see them begging and hear of them not eating for days, sometimes even a week or more going back a few months ago, another guy came to me in the street and asked for ?1.... just ?1. now that's not a lot and he looked to be genuine, he walked straight to the nearest chippy, bought a bag and I swear I've never seen anybody eat so quick, or be so thankful as he was.

I think people need to realise and understand what makes them run away. Yes alot of the time it is by choice, which makes it worse, surely.

There must be alot of fear for someone to leave a house with a bed and heating and food.

People should take the time out, especially with this cold weather we are having, and appreciate what these people have given up and then think of what was so bad for people to leave in the first place.

I just saw some old fella freezing his arse off, he was barely moving. I gave him a pound and told him to get a hot soup from the stand nearby.

Where i live most of the homeless people are mentally ill.

The mentally ill should be locked up.
It is also wrong that murderers, rapists and drug dealers have a comfortable jail cell with a tv and and a playstation while people down on their luck have nothing.

There are alot of homeless people round here,

there aint really many facilities, and although there are alot of campainges to make some of the tempory shelters pernament the funding to do so just isn't there.

Aswell as the people on the streets here is filled with hostels and b&b totally full of the "hidden homeless"

Not enough cash to make more places, so the council have to turn people away alot.

true. The rapist, drug dealers and such should be made to sleep on hard beds and be given basic rations, which they should earn.
