Up until recently I had panda titanium antivirus, unfortunately I had to delete the whole thing as it wasn't connecting me to the internet. I was so sick of re-installing it to work. I think it's the firewall they have installed with it that lets it down.

I now use a free antivirus called AVG, never heard of it before, but it seems to be doing the job nicely.

There's a free program going around called "Spybot Search and Destroy". It sounds cheesy but it works like a charm!

im sure i read somewhere that when on the net you should creat a new account on your pc and not give the new account admin status which apparantly stops some viruses and stuff getting on to your pc.
im sure some techie will correct me or explain it better.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but I believe it is because if you are logged in as an administrator, viruses and other malaware can use your admin status to install themselves on your PC.

So, being security conscious, I tried creating another account without Admin status for myself on my PC once - and found it a complete pain in the butt! I can't remember exactly why it was a pain now, but I think that every time I wanted to download something, install something or change any global settings, I had to keep logging off as a user and logging on as an Administrator.

So rightly or wrongly, I decided to delete the user account and keep my fingers crossed that having an up-to-date firewall and antivirus program would give me fairly reliable protection against such attacks. I also run SpyBot search and destroy on a regular basis, to delete all the spyware and malaware that my Firewall/Antivirus program unfortunately seems to miss.
