I saw an MSNBC special last night about rage killings, which seems to be a variation of suicide. Seems primarily an American issue at this point. They claim to have about 30 of them a year.

The suicidal person goes into a fastfood place or restaurant with firearms and kills as many folks as he can before taking his own life.

One of these folks actually videotaped themselves the night before talking about how it was time for "a little payback" for everything everyone had done to him and how relieved he was that it was finally over and he wouldn't have to be tormented any longer.

This was absolutely one of the most disturbing things that I've seen in a long time.

how awful how can a person be so full of rage and hate?

This appears to be a growing issue. The people (professionals) that they had on the program said that committing suicide alone was not sufficient, they had to avenge themselves on others for the suffering that they had been put through (at least in their own estimation).

It was almost enough to convince me to avoid crowds. I've heard of a few of these types of actions at the post office. It has been jokingly referred to as "going postal".

Aside from restaurants, the work place was the second most common site for this type of action.

I remember a few cases in the past, children on killing sprees in thier school, a man shooting a load of people in mcdonalds, there have been loads. I wonder if something snaps, or if there are warning signals along the way before someone becomes so enraged they actually want to kill?

I can only answer from what I saw on the special. One man told his wife that he was "going hunting" and he went to a Mc Donalds. From what was presented these folks seem very cool at the time (at least that's how the survivors described them).

One man was rejected by a female acquaintance and went to a Luby's restuarant and mowed down almost thirty people after driving his SUV through the plate glass front window to block everyone's escape. Most of the people he killed were women, but he killed several men as well.

I think it points to the need to address anger.

I do not consider these poeple as weak. I believe that they are suffering. I believe that they can pass that suffering on to others. I believe that when they pass on that much suffering to an innocent person that the only way that innocent person can reclaim their life is to find a way out of their own suffering. There is a way to do just that.

Many people find that way. It is a way that works uniquely for them. The first step seems to be in stopping running from the pain and embracing it. It takes a lot of courage.

its like a big chain, they are suffering, they comit suicide and pass it on to their relatives and friends, then the people that they pass on the pain to go and do the same thing. it goes on forever!

Much suffering is passed from parent to child. It is generational in many cases, however that doesn't mean that the chain cannot be broken.

My mother-in-law killed herself. She threw herself in front of a train. It was the drivers 3rd one that week. He had a nervous breakdown.

She had a hard life, she suffered more than most people can bear, im not sure exactly what tipped her over the edge, we think she may have been diagnosed with cancer again, she always said she would never go through the treatment again. Turns out her husband was beating her up too, which we never found out about until post-mortem.

I guess the point is, there is always a lot more to the story than what appears on the surface, and sometimes we will never know why.

Not all suicidal people need professional help. Some kind find their own way out of it, but I think that a lot of people who are suicidal need professional help (counseling, support groups, things like that)I think that in order to get better you need to process your emotions and the things that hurt you. It does take courage. A lot of it. It's hard and it takes a long time, but it helps. One thing that I find sad it that a lot of people who need professional help never get it. Either they don't have the money or their parents don't care.
