WASHINGTON (AP) -- Undeterred by a decisive defeat in the Senate, House Republicans are moving ahead with a vote on a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, forcing lawmakers to take a stand just months before the election.

Because it's not about gay marriage. It's about a divisive policy that will bring the Christians to the polls, giving the republicans a huge boost in the polls.

This is politics at it's purest - it's not about ideals, it's not about doing what's best for the country or it's people, it's about garnering votes and remaining in power. Voter manipulation at it's finest.

Which is exactly why politics is so f***ed up. It shouldn't make a difference to anyone whether or not we marry the people we love.

For straight people, being in love, and unable to marry/see each other/ spend time together is a fairy tale, or a musical, or a tragic play. For gay people, it's politics.

Now, I really want to go and kill something.

This is an abuse of the Constitution. Constitutions should not be about banning things but putting into words, a descriptive account of the mechanisms of government.

The government has more important things to worry about than gay marriage. This is just another way for the government to attempt to control our lives. If gays want to get married, let them. As long as it's between two consenting adults I couldn't care less. Just a bull s*** way for conservatives to push their moral agenda on us.
