So first Hannah gives a little scare, but passes by us, thank God. Now freaking Ike. Ike makes me a wee nervous. At first it looked like we were right in the center of the cone of possible landfall. So ok, we get ourselves in order, just in case. Now the damn thing looks like it's going to swing south and hit the west coast of Florida. I'm in SE FLorida, my son is in school in SW Florida. If it doesn't get us, it gets him. Grrrr. And I gather there's another one out in the Atlantic right behind Ike. I LOVE south Florida. The rest of the year it offers a great climate, but man hurricane season sucks. | |

Ogler 21122 points | We should form a club-- The Pissed Off at Ike club. I know a few other Floridians who are right there with us.
And on a petty note...I have my first real doubles tennis match on Thursday. I've played summer fun league matches, but this is a step up and I'm looking forward to it. Ike better not come along and rob me of tennis, damnit! (or my roof, or power, or anything else of course ) |

Are you in a coastal area or more inland? |

No gas at the pumps. Smelly grocery stores. And that's easy stuff compared to the aftermath of Andrew and Katrina. I don't like 'em at all.
ME NEITHER!!! a week wiht no lights or cable or INTERNET was enough for me... |

I've been through like all of the big ones.
well then again, i didn't think they were too big. The year we were nailed back to back, the most of them came right through the center.
We have a generator, It's so hard to really explain, I just enjoy it... |

Just for clarification...you wouldn't like the sort of chaos brought on by an Andrew or Katrina type storm, right? I can see liking a good stomr, but not that kind of post storm insanity.
Does the Orlando area ever really get kicked by hurricanes though? I thought that far inland they rarely did any real damage?
We have a generator too. I think after S. Florida got nailed so many times in a row most people have them now. Which means it's going to be REALLY LOUD the next tiem the power goes out! |

I don't like that kind of damage. But I don't mind the power going out and having to use lamps. I love storms beyond belief.
I'm sure it doesn't get as bad inland. But then again, I've never been on the coast when one has hit..
Maybe I shall check it out sometime.
I remember going to Daytona a few years ago after the back to back storms. So many of the hotels were ruined. It was bad.
Also in Miami... Yea but I still like them. |

You're allowed. I'm not sure if it's the low pressure or what, but everytime they come through I get headaches too. Maybe some people are just made for hurricanes and you are one of them. I, FO SHO, am not. |
