Public entry My son kicks ass
May 15, 2008 @ 05:07:01 pm
My son came to me irate because of the way the Patriot Act has infringed on our personal liberties. YAY! We had yet another great discussion about the direction this country seems to be headed (losing our rights and liberties, government getting larger and more invasive) and what needs to happen to get it back under control. Not to brag too much, but the guy is wicked smart and a fantastic debater. I encouraged him to finish his BA in Law or Political Science, go on to do his Masters and get into politics. He’s so bothered by what he sees happening, he’s thinking about doing it. I’m SO excited by this prospect!! I love that he hates what’s going on, feels passionately about it and wants to be part of the change…a voice of sanity.

Heck yeah your son kicks ass! That's awesome! If we all just turn the other way when someone else's freedoms are taken away, it's only a matter of time until they come for our own. Congrats to you on raising a son who doesn't turn the other way!

He followed it up with sending me a PM (why he sent it to me I have no idea) saying that it's not idiotic and he doubts if you or your son actually know anything at all about the Patriot Act.

Classy fellow, eh?

I thought it was a thread about a mother being proud of her son.

I sent you a PM because i didn't want to discuss it on someones journal.

I'm suprized you brought it here.

I didn't realize you would take it here. My PMs where intended on understanding the response of vizzy. I know your a smart guy jonny, thats why i mssaged you.

I was hoping for clarity in the given situation. I thought this was a discution about the patiot act and her son wanting to do more research on it.

I'm sorry to all parties involved. I was hoping for clarity and all i got was more drama.

I'm going to try really hard not to get overly bitchy with you Thomas, but I have to say...given the level of literacy displayed in your posts I'm totally flabbergasted that you would suggest that myself and my son lack knowledge of the Patriot Act.

Just charming and apparently incapable of interpreting what he reads as he thought I'd created this journal to discuss the Patriot Act.

Here's the PM exchange I had with him. I think the level of maturity displayed here speaks for itself:

I don't think that was an idiotic statement i made.

I'll bet you anything neither her or her son could explain which one of thier civial liberites they are losing by the patriot act

Vizzy is a pretty bright woman. While I can't say that either she or her son could relate the details of the Patriot Act to you on command, I have no doubt that they have both read or heard enough about it in the past to come to the conclusion that it does erode civil liberties.

I couldn't even rattle off the details of it to you without a quick refresher from Wikipedia, but I know damn well it was an awful, reactionary act that does indeed severely infringe on my personal liberties.

Furthermore, going into someone's journal and throwing out an insult by implying that neither the journal writer nor her son probably don't know anything about the Patriot Act which she was discussing is pretty rude. I would have deleted the post had it been my own journal.

DT said:
Is there some kind of journal ethics that i'm missing?

I just asked a simple question, "which rights where the patriot act removing?".

She doesn't know. Thats why it hit a nerve for her. If she knew she would have answered with something more inteligent than what she answered with.

She answered with a knee jerk reaction of " your dumb" and ran off.

Are you only supose to go to jurnals and post a bull s**t "RIGHT ON!" message? every time?

She didn't say which of her rights where being infrenged upon, do you want to know why?

Because the patiot act doesn't infringe on any rights of any one person. It doesn't stop you from doing anything. Its all hype.

I didn't say " you don't know anything about the patiot act" I didn't acuse anyone of anything, i just asked a simple question and would have liked a simple answer, because i honestly don't know of any rights we as citizens have lost from the patiot act.

What i got was " that is a idiotic statment"

It's just rude to come into someone's thread and tell them they probably don't know anything about the subject they're talking about.

It's incredibly presumptuous. You're just assuming they're stupid. Whether in real life, in a public thread, or in a journal, it's a huge assumption to make - and an insulting one.

And the Patriot Act *does* infringe on our rights. Well, specifically, it gives the government the power to infringe on our rights almost at will. You should read it some time.

DT said:
Now whos being "rude" you bring our private converation to a public forum because you can't defend your stance on the patiot act? Please if you want to be a child and air our conversations to people who can't respond with something more inteligent than a negative kudo.

I honestly did think i could have a mature converstion with you.

I have read it, and I have heard a great deal of hype about how it infringes on our civil liberties, guess what slappy it doesn't.

Tell me one gd thing the patiot act doesn't let you do!

JUST ONE!

Just one and i'll concede the argument.

j said:
It doesn't need to prevent me from doing something good.

It can (and does) give the government the power to infringe on your rights.

DT said:
I'm waiting smart guy, give me one single liberty you have lost from the patriot act. Your talking out of your bung!

You don't knwo the slightest thing about how it effects your civil liberites in anyway way.

its not me that need the extra education on a given subject, its you.

j said:
[insult removed] I'm not going to have a conversation, much less explain anything, to [insult removed]

DT said:
Still havn't gotten a answer tuff guy, now we are throwing insults. cute, see you in the sand box, with the rest of the infants.

The consummate troll.

Thanks Jon, for being kind enough to assume that I'm smart enough to figure out how to read and interpret the Patriot Act.

That PM exchange is exactly why I didn't answer his question concerning the Patriot Act. I REFUSE to get into a debate with that guy. He can't debate. It's easier just to ignore him than to engage with him.
