| ok, i go this huge big lecture from my mum and dad last nyt about drinkin, smokin and havin sex. aparently soembody told my mum that they had seen me drinkin outta a vodka bottle, smokin hash and sleeping with people ten years older than me!! i told her it wasnt true, i swore it wasnt true but she beleves somebody she has known only a month over her own daughter!! what is wrong with the world! | |

30710 points | That's not necessarily true actually. My mom was so afraid of being the parents with the teenager who pulled the wool over their eyes, that she accused me of all sorts of things. In actuality I was a very good kid, never drank, never did drugs, got good grades.
The accusations come from a fear on her part that she will be taken by lies. No parent wants to be that parent. She doesn't want to end up feeling stupid and inept. So she overcompensates as a preemptive measure. Afterall, who'd more likely to lie to her about this situation? The one being accused, or the one reporting the incident? Maybe your friend is known for causing drama and crap. Maybe if you talked with your mom about that problem, she would have already known that person to not be reliable. You need to keep communication open with your parents, otherwise they're shooting in the dark. It scares a parent to death to think their little girl is sleeping with older men at 15 and swigging from vodka bottles and smoking! She would be irresponsible if she didn't at least investigate the situation thoroughly. She couldn't just let it slide out of fear of offending you.
The main way to maintain trust between you and your mom is to talk to her about what's going on with your life, your friends, what you do, where you go. Talk to her about the problems that come up in your life, like having compulsive liars as friends, or people who like to start rumors. Then she'll feel like she's connected with you more, and then if someone is lying to her about you it won't throw her so much, because she'll feel like she already knows what's going on. Then a blatant lie will be as obvious to her as it is to you. |
