Im not taking about all Americans, but is it just me or does everyone find that some Americans seem to think they single handily won the Second World War. Everywhere I seem to go there’s one waiting just round the corner and no matter how many facts you throw at them they still think that you owe them everything. This has to go top of my ‘All Things Annoying List’ and I’m hoping it’s the only political thing I add. | |

I dont understand why this irritates you at all, and it is so in the past. |

Points Whore 772 points | | I don’t discount that and I agree that they were a valuable ally, but that’s the point I’m making it was an allied effort, if the Russians hadn’t been involved we would have been beaten and if the British hadn’t been involved the Americans and Russian would have lost. What annoys me are the few Americans who don’t think it was an Allied effort and who don’t think the war even started until Dec 7th 1941. |

The US troops were met mostly with contempt in this country and thier effort was belittled by many British people.
Ok if that irritates you when certain individuals feel thier nation saved ours and ended the war then fine.
It irritates me that there are certain individuals in the UK who to this day do not appreciate the sacrifices made by many other nations who helped Great Britain at that time. |

Points Whore 772 points | | LOL no!!!! That’s not what I’m saying (But yes in way they do after all they did capture Berlin). What I’m annoyed about are the few Americans who are growing up believing they single handily won the war as though it was Axis against Americans not Axis against Allies. Hollywood has a lot to blame for this such as Saving Private Ryan where the only comment that anyone other then the Americans were fighting was a put down of Montgomery and the plans that were in the works to show how the Americans liberated Greece (the fact that the only American in Greece was a cook with the British Army had nothing to do with this) |

Ogler 20803 points | | yea i agree it doesnt annoy me but ive heard people say that they won the war but its arrogance and lack of education they think there the best and wont listen to anyone else ive seen british do the same people my friend says we coulda beaten em on our own lol hell no but ure right and look at it this way they cant have possibly single handedly beat them dude since then how many wars have americant won without an other countries help? how could they take on powers like japan!? no offense people! just statin the truth and anyway the wars over so why worry bout it now? lol |

I totally agree and I hope that your not counting me in that number as I have already posted that it wasn't aimed at all Americans and I totally agree that without them the War would have been lost. |

Über-Monkey 55449 points | What irritates me most about world history including the world wars is the lack of knowledge by just so many people.
People who have a knowledge of what DID happen in any particular event are much less likely to come out with inaccurate or misleading statements as to their countries involvement in any situation.
Empty vessils make most noise.
If you find someone banging on about something their country did dispportionate to the efforts of their allies take what they are saying with a pinch of salt.
Do you know that Britain are still repaying loans received from the USA during the second world war?

Über-Monkey 59180 points | | it was us british that invented civilian bombing!! |
treebee UM - BONGO Über-Administrator 162933 points | | Yes I see, its more a lack of decent education in the matter and probably not helped by Hollywood. |

Points Whore 772 points | | Sorry but I have to disagree with you, the Birtish are on record as being the first to cause civilian casualties due to air bombing. Back in WWI we bombed German troops in a French town killing some civilins in the process. |

Yes, I probably should have been more specific to begin with. But it does annoy me that due to modern day cinema a whole generation are going to grow up thinking the Americans did more they actually did. U471 being another example. |

Über-Monkey 55449 points | Problem with the poorly educated is that they see and believe the tripe feed to them from TV and Cinema.
When the film Titanic was first shown in Belfast some factory girls who haven't a spirit level to their name never mind an "O" level were asked what they thought of the film.
