Bless her heart!
She has somehow managed to do what I have been trying to do for the last 13 years and has tracked down my long lost Auntie and Uncle!
I am so damn happy.I have just been on the phone to my Aunt (I say Aunt - she is actually my Dad's cousin - so my second cousin, but it is as close as we have )and it was amazing.
Very strange mind you, as I was a child last time I spoke to her - and now I am an adult.
I told her about my degree, and she cried - she was so proud of me. I told her about Matt, and she was delighted.
I am sitting here typing this with a combination of tears and laughter running through me - it is amazing how something can make you so happy.
As soon as my Mum has got all the decorating she has started finished they are coming down to stay - and I can't wait. I may treat myself to a holiday soon and go up there!
I found out that just after we lost contact they did actually drive from where they live (north east) to where we live (south west) just to see us. Unfortunately it was just after we moved and nobody had a forwarding address for us so they came for nothing.
I have always worried about my Dad, and if he was lonely as we are all growing up and moving on - and him and my Mum no longer living together (although they are best mates) and today when I spoke to him I could hear the happiness in his voice. He couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was to talk to her - and that it didn't feel like 13 years had passed!
Often, I have wished that I had family outside of my immediate family - I have no grandparents, and my parents have no siblings - they were the only extended family that I have and I can't wait to re-meet them and to meet their children, and grandchildren - possibly even great grandchildren (my Dad thinks that my Aunt's grandchildren are about our age).
Goodness, I am happy. July 2008 - what an amazing month!
