First off, when I was up in Kamloops, I saw so many animals that I could've made a 1 hour nature program. When me, my cousin's mom and her friend were driving to Tranquille Creek, we saw a black bear running across a large field. We stopped the car and tried to get a few pictures, but he would disappear into the bushes for a while. When we actually got to the creek and were following the trail, we saw a side path next to a small lake. There was a beaver dam in the middle and we even saw the beaver swimming back to it. On the way back from the creek when Brenda and Joe were talking, we suddenly heard a loud rattling noise. Brenda jumped back in surprise because there was a rattlesnake in the small bushes near the trail. For me, that was the 2nd rattlesnake I'd seen in my life. Then when we went to Niskonlith Lake to camp for a few days, there were some friendly chipmunks, a squirrel that had an attitude, a garter snake swimming in the water, a frog that I named Enrique, a bunch of ospreys, a bald eagle with babies in her nest and about 20 turtles when me and my dad went out on the lake. We spent about 15 minutes, just silently paddling around trying to catch them. We finally caught a realy small turtle, but it hissed at us. It was so cute, though.
I can only describe floating down the Thompson River in 4 words... A day well spent. Nothing like getting together with a bunch of friends, getting out the inflatable boats and rafts and just floating down the river. The only part I dislike about the experience is waiting for dad to get his truck from the launch point. But it has to be done, so it's all good.
And the barbeques were amazing! My dad is an expert on the grill. We had steak, ribs, chicken, you name it, we grilled it. I think there was only one time where we didn't eat something off the grill and that was the huge pizza we got at Vern's. And trust me, you haven't had pizza until you've had Vern's Pizza. The pizza on this menu is really 18 inches. It's so big, they cut it into 16 slices.

I felt so sorry for my dad when we went paintballing, though. He was the first one out twice and was usually eliminated within the first 5 minutes. But that's what he gets for rushing. My strategy is basically me being the decoy and just providing covering fire when need be. I'm not too accurate, so it's the least I could do. In one of the Capture the Flag games, I got the flag. We almost made it to our opponent's base with it, but time expired. I went through the first 4 games without getting hit, but was hit in the last two. In the same leg, too. But it was a blast.
Kamloops was a blast and I had the most amazing time. I can hardly wait to go up next time. |
