I went for a hike i'd been along the track before. And last time it was raining and was muddy and sodden. Today it was worse.First of all the bus has a ford a stream just before we get to the carpark. And the stream was quite high and you couldn't see the road. He knew it was there, and still went for it anyway. Anyway the bus flooded, much to everyones delight. Its no mean feat flooding a touring bus, means the water was nearly a metre high!
It was raining, but it wasn't too bad. Since we were walking in forest, most of the rain didn't reach us. But the path was a bit worse for wear. Big deep puddles throughout, and water running across the path and down the path when it really shouldn't. But we were meant to be analysing the river and measuring it. Unfortunately for us it was in flood, so all we could do was stand by and watch it. Observe it.
Further upstream some guy got his 4WD stuck and that looked like it had water flowing through it. And there were people on the other side of the river wanting to cross it. But they decided against it.
All in all it was a productive day. Hour and a half there walking, take some brief notes, listen to the lecturers talking out in the pouring rain, then hour and a half back. The day was shorter then was expected, and we didn't get to do what we went out there to do. Instead we saw something that we wouldn't normally see, get to understand how the catchment reacts in a flood, and actually learn some things than we would have normally done.
At least it wasn't a cold wind |
