I am so pissed.

My step dad works for a man who owns a lot of real estate in the town that I live in. Today, they were cleaning out a house that the man bought and they found, according to him, tons of books. They threw them all away.

The house belonged to a doctor that travelled the world and collected books from everywhere. My step dad just called me to tell me that he saved a few books for me, but he threw the rest away. He then went on to say that he threw 2 totes of books from the 1800's in the dumpster.

I'm going right now to see if anything can be salvaged. It has been raining all day so I don't know if I will be able to save anything or not.

Don't be angry. Be glad you got the chance to save some of them. It's really sad though. Poor books.

It's kinda sad, but the guys cleaning the place didn't have much choice.

They can't just collect and walk away with the property of someone else. They're under contract to throw that stuff away, yanno?

Hmm when I had my own cleaning business I was'nt under contract to throw anything away, more like clean it and dispose the contents of the house by any means possible, even if that meant my truck

I would have checked some of them out and read or sold them.

The guy throwing the books away was my stepdad. He wasn't under a contract for anything. He just didn't understand the importance of some of that stuff.

I managed to save about 20 books and some of the guys journals. One of the books is hand written and bound like a manuscript. The don it is 1823. I also saved a bunch of really old pictures, one of them was even on a metal plate. I saved some really neat stuff that would just be landfill matieral if I hadn't tried.

Something I just remebered. His boss gave him a harp that is around 6 feet tall. The case had names of european cities and dates starting at 1899 going to 1910.
