Dangit. I just got pulled over by the biggest asshole cop in town.
He got me at 42 in a 30.
And he never lets you off. He always sits by the highschool because he likes to get the teenagers.
142 dollars...
I'm still paying off my MIP!! | |

Abominable Snowman 86671 points | Let me make sure I understand.
You were going about 50% over the posted speed limit.
A cop gives you a ticket.
The cop is, therefore, an asshole? Doubly so because you were previously convicted of breaking another law and can't afford this one too?
Maybe you should consider the cessation of criminal activity. |

Debater 5244 points | That's not why he's an asshole.
He's an a** because he'll never let someone off of the hook and targets teens. None of the other cops even like him. If I were going 31 he probably would of pulled me over. And yeah I can afford it. It's just not fun paying 140 dollars for nothing. |

But you were speeding...so it's really not for nothing... |

Debater 5244 points | | No I mean. I deserved the ticket. But I'm saying it's 140 wasted dollars. |

Why would he "let you off the hook"?
You were going 50% over the speed limit.
Sure, it's not fun paying $140 for anything, but you were breaking the law.
Stop speeding and doing other illegal things and you won't have to waste any more money! |

Über-Minister 16874 points | more teens tend to speed nowadays, that's why he is there............not to annoy you.
.......to hopefully smarten you up!
17 year old last year doing 140KM on my street, which is a 40KM zone, lost control, hit a car and drove into a tree.............need I say more? kid died instantly.
stop speeding and make everyones life a little longer! |

Über-Meister 1555 points | You actually think HE is the ass-hole? And if he "targets" teens its because of teens like YOU who think they should get all the breaks and somehow are above the law... Seriously? Get a grip and give the cop a break- he is just doing his job and doing it darned well from the looks of it! Sheesh! |

Minister 11548 points | This is one of the few occassions where I will agree with Jonnythan . ..
You were over the speed limit, you got caught. You got a fine, which you completely deserve. If you don't want to spend anymore money, try driving WITHIN the speed limit. It's legal, you won't get into trouble and need to spend money, you'll save that "a** hole" from doing any paper work and, guess what? You're LESS likely to kill someone too. It's really a win win situation. |

Debater 5244 points | Well. My spedometer said I was doing about 36 when he pulled up behind me. He said he clocked me at 42 from 237 feet away. The driveway I pulled out of was no more than 300 away from where I was sitting. I really don't think I could of got to 40mph in 300 feet. My truck is a turd.
And yes. He's an asshole. He does target teens. One day the cop was in the store I work at. I guy working at the gas station came in and said that guy out there is drinking and driving. The cop looked out the door. The car started pulling out of the driveway. and the cop said "hmm, too late now. I can't catch him" he drives a freakin bmw motorcycle. He definately could of caught him. about 3 hours later, that cop, with another, came back and said that the guy had been in a wreck near the coast and he was drunk. He had a recipt from our gas station and was asking my co-worker why he hadn't reported the guy drinking. You're telling me the cop is not an asshole?
And I wasn't endagering anyone going 36mph. The only reason the speed limit isn't 40(which it used to be there) is because that's where people go cruising Friday night and they've been trying to shut that down since my parents were teenagers. It's a flat straight strectch and it's totaly safe to be going probably 45. That's the ONLY reason they lowered the speed limit to 30. I didn't endanger anyone. There's not one person in this town who would tell you that he is a good cop. Not one. |

Debater 5244 points | Before they wrote tickets for breaking the speed limit, and they just wrote you a ticket for violating the basic rule, my government teacher got off the hook for a ticket doing 45 when the speed limit was 30 in the same spot as me. He just went to court and said, is it unsafe to drive 45 on that street with the road conditions the way they are? And the judge said not guilty because it wasn't actually a violation of the basic rule.
So I wasn't being unsafe. You should probably know the situation first before you tell me how I'm a bad person. |
annski729 Pajama Girl Über-Moderator 103963 points | | That sucks about the ticket. But regardless of whether the guy is an asshole, if you know he hangs out by the high school to catch people speeding, why don't you just make a conscious effort to go extra slow while driving past it? |
 l_teddy10
Debater 5244 points | I don't know.
I saw all my friends and stuff and was wavin' to everyone and I just wasn't watching my speedometer. But I know I wasn't going 42. It was 37 tops.
I hate how everyone's saying I was unsafe though. Trust me, it's not unsafe. That street is like a highway. I WASN'T. There's only one reason the speed limmit is 30. And that's to shut down the Friday night cruising. |

Über-Meister 1555 points | If it is to deter Friday night cruising then THAT is a good enough reason... If the cop is assigned to your beat, then he does his job... Even if you were doing a 36 or 37 on a 30 zone, you WERE breaking the law- these are all as simple as that.
And if you think you were unfairly ticketed, contest it and prove it in court- if you cannot- don't whine about it...
If you are old enough to drive a car, you are old enough to follow laws and rules and old enough to pay for the consequences of not following those laws and rules- you don't get to choose what the law ought to be... If all that is unpalatable to you- quit driving and start walking or biking... You are not doing yourself any favors by being so defensive about what was CLEARLY a wrong on your part- you are just coming across as an entitled brat! |
 l_teddy10
Debater 5244 points | I know that. I was just saying that it sucks.
It's just a ridiculous law. It feels like it would if you were going 3mph down a residential area. They just do it because they don't want people cruising around Friday night. Which is dumb anyways because there's not a whole lot else to do on Friday night without gettin in trouble. |
