| I always enjoy my nightly gla** of red wine. It tastes like a love affair, the sordid kind you only share with paper. And as I sip gently the prelude of a storm paints my window. Night is beginning to close its arms and calls me outside before it finishes its embrace. I sit on my porch, sipping, and smoking. Life feels like its settling, threading itself together and I inhale a rare, sweet moment of peace. But the air smells wrong, tainted, pregnant with impending devastation. I listen closely, and hear a fall in the woods ahead. I walk, trepidation slowing my steps... and I find you, huddles amongst the leaves, your too white skin luminous in the night. I sink to my knees and try to shake you. The rain laves our bodies. "Don't," your voice is the wind fighting through the trees above. "I can help you," I plead through chattering teeth. You look up at me, then close your eyes, smiling sadly, "you don't give a dying man CPR." | |
