Now i was walking back from picking up my son [9] from school with my dog [who was sniffing a lot of dog s**t] and my youngest lad [3] when the 9 year old ask if i could download him GUN for the PS2, i answered that i would see.
Now i get back home and check out GUN and see it's rated a mature game which puts it around an 18 cert in the UK, so i was like scratching my head and wondering where the hell he had played this game. Now before you start i'm not an overly oppressive father, i would consider myself quite lax and i do let him play games upto cert 15 within reason but i draw the line at Cert 18 games for an 9 year old.
So i gave him a shout and asked him where he had played the game and he tells me his nana let him play it at the weekend, now she knows my stance on this and i'm a bit pissed off she would rule against my parenting, but i held my tongue, i certainly didn't give the lad a row as it wasn't his fault but now i'm thinking am i too tough? Am i wrong to stop him playing Cert 18 games? I play and love Ps2 games, i love the Resident evil series and played them nonstop, i'm still battling through Resi 4, and i love the GTA games which he has been dying to play but i won't let him play.
Now i think i wouldn't let him watch a Cert 18 movie so why the hell would i let him play a Cert 18 video game, am i right or am i being too tough? | |

Debater 7271 points | nah i think you are totally right. i wasnt allowed to watch 18's till i was 15 and I'm fine.
As for the gran thing, grans are usually more relaxed about these sort of things, i know my gran is, but if your to happy about it, why dont you have a quiet word with the gran?
Or maybe you could let him play the game, and if his character changes or he starts doing violent things, then you could stop him..or let him play it for a few hours on weekend or something?
hope that helps |
