i was talking to my mother earlier..well she was wanting me to watch some show that talks about the world ending in 2012...she told me that the lord told her i was put on the earth for a reason..she said that the lord told her that she had til 2012 to teach me of the lord and his ways and this scares me alot..the fact that so many people from the past have predicted that the world will end in 2012..well i will only be 19 years old...i dont wanna die yet i wanna be able to at least live til im like 80 or sumthing i know the lord has alot of people on this earth for a reason and many of the reasons is to teach others about the lord there are many people like that here on this earth....and my mom might be telling me the truth when she said he told her i was put on this earth for a reason..she said the reason was to spread the word of the lord...to tell people about him and how great he is...now about this world ending in 2012..is that gonna happen?? i know there is NO MAN here on this earth who knows the exact time and the exact hour and exact day and exact minute the world will come to the end.. only the lord knows that but it still creep me out when people say that people from the past predicted the world will end in 2012...IM JUSS SO FREEKIN CONFUISED and i know this journal probley didnt make any sense what so ever so im juss gonna stop typing now...

Okay, your mum is basically off her nutters.

The entire basis behind the whole "The world will end in 2012" is based off Aztec/Mayan
myths.

The Mayan/Aztect calendar ends in 2012, thus time cannot continue. I believe it was in
May sometime.

But basically, what gives substance to this was the Aztect's scary ability to predict future
events. They were reported to have predicted the Spanish invasion to the day with no
idea of who or what the Spaniards were.

They predicted great sea islands that could move and white demons that would bring
them prosperity and later downfall.

So all in all, whatever Christians have to say about this should be defunct. These were
heathens and not in any way inspired by the Judaist god. Not, at least, until the Spanish
came.

So basically, your mum's off her rocker.

Listen honey, people have been predicting the end of the world for a very long time and havent been right about it. There is really nothing substantial by way of proof that this will happen in 2012. Some people are very clever at twisting facts and they are clever at making people beleive stuff.

This sort of thing makes good TV and people truly beleive what they are saying.

Dont stress over it, when the end of the world eventually comes there will be NOTHING anyone can do about it. Scientists predict it wont be for a long long time. So dont spend your time freaking out over this prediction. So many predictions have been wrong and i would bet one million dollars this one is also wrong.

	Interesting that your mom appears to be christian and yet doesn't believe the book of Revelations in the bible. According to that, there are still a number of things to occur before Jesus will even return. And if you're Protestant, then you more than likely believe in the rapture, in which all the christians immediately go to heaven, so you wouldn't even have to worry about dying.

Pretty much any year you care to mention has been prophecied as the end of the world by someone.

This one is based on a misinterpretation of Mayan legends. There's loads of information about it on the net, I think even the Straight Dope did an article on it a while back.

IF the world does end in 2012 (btw define "end of the world"

then it will be purely co-incidental.

There is an easy way to find out the likelihood of the world ending. Go talk to the greatest statisticians and probability scientists in the world. You might think to look in MIT, Cambridge University or Yale, but you'd be barking up the wrong tree. Just pop down the road and go to the nearest bookie and ask for odds on the world ending in 2012. They'll tell you exactly how likely it is, to the decimal...
