Public entry Young and dumb - funny if it weren't me
October 11, 2007 @ 04:09:40 am
When I was a minor I got pulled over with an untapped keg of beer in the back of my cousin's explorer. I was the only one in the vehicle. I had just pulled out of a gas station, where I iced the keg down. Well, I forgot my headlights and I was literally 5 seconds out of the gas station and was being pulled over. The cop was very reasonable and I was sober. He walked back to his car and was returning with a warning for my lights when he saw the keg. Knew I was busted when he shined the flashlight on it. I tried telling him that it wasn't my keg or my car, well he called my cousing who said I had the car all day. There just happened to be fresh ice on the keg. He proceeded to pull me out and make me pull the keg out and tap it. I was forced to tap the keg in the parking lot of a Cadillac dealership on the side of a major highway and pour every bit of it out. People driving by were laughing there asses off. Took me every bit of 45 minutes to dump the keg. He then writes me a ticket with a court date on it and hands me the warning for my lights. I loaded up the keg and was on my "merry" way. Needless to say I didn't even go to the party, hell I was the party. I was pretty bummed. Ended up with 6 months of probation and drug and alcohol classes. Not to mention $500 fines and court fees.

On a good note, they didn't search the rest of the car...

I already know how stupid it was... so please just have your laugh and don't rub it in.

It's not stupid. What state were you in? You should be able to have an untapped keg in your car. How else are you supposed to transport it to the party???

I'd say you were pretty lucky. If he had stopped you 2 hours later bringing home another keg. It would have been a different story. Not to mention more expensive.

He was under 21. He's not supposed to transport kegs of beer to any party!

Just to clarify further:

A minor cannot be in the possession of alcohol, whether opened or not.

With few exceptions, no one can have an *opened* (even if resealed) container of alcohol in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. Some states don't have "open container" laws, but most do.
