TFS Journal
People I Love.
August 24, 2011 @ 10:22:36 am
I was writing some of the people I love in another Journal, I'll copy and paste and continue. Because, seriously, these people are freaking awesome.
Who are the awesome people in your life?

"
(I work in a chow hall. I don't COOK in the chow hall, I just work there as force and asset protection) with a broad variety of people...
There are two ladies that come into the chow hall every morning together. One is a Major and the other one is a Captain, and they are the sweetest things you could ever meet. Both of them have to be near their 50's, and together they giggle like two school girls... But, when you separate them, they are lost looking. They act as if they don't know what to do without one another. They aren't a couple, they are just two very best friends that met on this deployment and one can't function without the other. It's cute to see them together because they have grins the size of the Cheshire Cat and they are always so friendly to everyone.
There is some older folk that come through that I really can't get enough of. One is a Major named Payne. Yes, really. I couldn't believe it at first, because a lot of people use fake names on their uniforms to protect their identity but this guy was proud. He's actually a really nice white guy in his 60's. He's always coming in making jokes and having a real fun time with everyone. I told him one day I'll get him to take a picture with me so one day I will have proof that I actually talked to MAJ Payne every morning for breakfast.
Oh, another one is a LtCol who is really a nice guy. I would say mid 50's or else he just ages very well. He comes in every day with a giant smile on his face and a story to tell. He never will even hesitate to ask (and listen to) how your day is going. He was actually having a bad day yesterday, so I went "Sit, you need a hug today?" And he comes back with, "I sure do!" And sure as s***, right there in front of everyone I got to hug a LtCol. This morning he came up to me and shook my hand, saying that I made his whole day better. I told him he returned the favor because he also made my bad day better as well!
And Thee MAJ. I really can't tell you enough about this guy for you to understand how cool he really is. He's actually best friends with my room mate. He actually goes out and looks for people who aren't doing the right thing... For people who are picking on soldiers and/or making other peoples' lives hell. He will go out and find them and then fight them tooth and nail through the legal system until they behave. He stands up for the little guys who has no chance otherwise. I guess people can do that when they're best friends with the General and damn fine lawyers!
"
I'm going to explain some other people. If you don't mind, that is.
Well, there is this guy who is a SSG. He's actually old enough to retire but for some reason he doesn't plan on it anytime soon. He actually started talking to me about two weeks ago while I'm at work. One day, he asked me what type of coffee I drink, because he always seen me with a coffee cup. I told him, and the very next day, he brings me coffee. And actually every day since, he's brought me a cup of coffee. He would stand with me sipping at his own coffee as I sip on mine and we would chit-chat and joke around while I'm working, just talking about life. Today he actually told me that he and his wife have 12 kids together. I found this amazing because that's a whole lot of labor, right? Anyway, he thinks a girl who wrote him a letter likes him, and I just told him to tell her how long he's been married and how many kids they have together and he won't have to worry about this other girl anymore!
There is this SSG, female and nice. She actually was living with me back in the states because she didn't have anywhere to go. Well she deployed with us also, and I work with her every now and then. You can actually hear her from anywhere in the chow hall because her voice carries THAT far. I love her though, like the sister my sisters should have been like. She has been there for me when my family abandoned me and whole my sister yelled and screamed at me. She actually gave me 'feel better' presents like afghan scarves and things like that to cheer me up. It was really nice of her.
Oh, I have to tell you about this girl, PFC, Samoan and is spunky like crazy. She is my best friend, actually, or one of the few, because she's been with me since two years ago. When I couldn't count on anyone else, she was there. She would do anything for anyone, no questions asked. She actually was picked on so much when she got here because of her being Samoan that she snapped and we almost lost her. I kept telling them to leave her alone, but I was going up against people who were much higher rank than I, and I didn't stand a chance. Finally she found some inner peace here, and has her own little 'get-away' spot so she can unwind, even though they are still mean to her, she's doing much better. I just wish I could have done more.
I don't really know who else to talk about. These are probably the only really awesome people that I know and hang out with right now.

I have a few very dear friends that I talk to nearly daily that I met through TFS.

One has a very tough relationship but a very courageous and supportive heart, another is as beautiful and sweet inside as she is outside and knows how make an impact with very few sentences.

There is another here who's charm is her innocence and lack of fear to be her self and admit her past mistakes.

And another who remains positive even considering her financial stability - a beautiful blonde to boot - if only she could get around and get seen.

This can also be said for a girl that I know in New Zealand physically who is on the skids and attempting to raise two children but has a very strong personality.

And I'll never forget those two twin angels at the hospital I worked for who showed me nothing but kindness and admiration when no one else would.

My partner's love and support goes without saying but I should list her as well.

I know there are more that I cannot recall right now but I only have three daily re-occurances in my life at present. My partner and two internet friends.

Your question is simple, but the answer may depend on ones circumstances and attitudes, both of which are hugely influenced by ones age... I have seen and worked with a lot of people over the course of my lifetime, but today, the only ones I regard as awesome tend to be of two types. There are young females who have been dealt a lousy hand in life, saddled with a divorce or loss of partner, having to raise their children on their own, yet they manage to bring their entire being into focus, and devote their life to caring for their kids. And, there are the younger people, like my little freind, who is only just beginning to speak in complete sentences, but has already won my heart.

In no particular order because they're all so important to me: My family, especially my gorgeous lil nephew, he just makes us all so happy and is a lovely, bright child.
my other half obviously, he's just the best thing since sliced bread & the best person ever he's made me happier than I ever thought I could be and he makes me laugh all the time!
My friends, especially my best friend, she's funny & kind & has great sense of humour, we're so on the same wavelength it's scary! I just wish she thought as much of herself.
