That is a very good question, and one to dwell on. I have very deep rooted interest in World War II, just because for the hand of mysteries that existed through the war, and subtle strategies that led to the win by allies.
Within three weeks of starting the war, Germany had Holland and Belgium down. France and Britain armies were split. About 400,000 British and French troops were stuck on the Dunkirk beach, with German forces tailgating them. Suddenly, Hitler stopped attack, based on advice from General Rundstedt, who doubted the plans of Guderian who wanted to attack and annihilate the British and French forces. General Rundstedt wanted the infantry division to catch up to launch a full scale assault on the Allied forces. However, between 27th May and 4th June 1940, 693 ships (including small boats, trawlers, yachts) carried 338,226 people to Britain. Imagine what it would have been like if Germany went ahead with the attack? Britain and France would have surrendered and the World War would have ended. (Japan did not bomb Pearl Harbor until 1941, which brought USA in to the war).
There are more interesting stories and anecdotes from the war! It amazes me!

Coming to the questions, on WHY did Germany lose?
01. Germany did not have the allies who worked together for one cause. Italy and Russia supported Germany to satisfy their regional interests. Hitler, however, had far reaching ambitions. He wanted an unified Europe. A dream that Napolean Bonaparte had.
02. He attacked Russia, at the wrong time. Russia, meanwhile, had three advantages. Its size, its army and its winter. That said, Russia still could have succumbed because by the time it woke up to what Hitler was up to, they had lost 1200 tanks and 150,000 fighters. As the winter set in, morale of the German forces ebbed and partisan groups launched pocketed attacks on supply convoys.
03. Hitler had forces scattered across the territory. He did not wait to consolidate his conquests, but went from one battle to another, scattering his forces. The German forces were split, amidst raising rebellions at conquered places.
There was no way, Hitler could have won the war that way!
