I did not really want to quit smoking, but I got really sick and kind of had to.

I'm glad now (although not smoking did make me gain some weight)!

Nailed to the ciggy treadmill....well! at least you look forward to it then.

unless you find a new calling or direction to channel your will into, you will be subject to the ciggy voodoo when the the nicotine drums start a beatin!

you need some other voodoo that can seriously challenge the voodoo drums!

That's why it's called "addictive"

One big problem with cigarettes, is the "social" aspect. You take a coffee break, and a cig goes with it, you watch the tv - out comes the cigs.......that aspect makes it harder to quit. A case of what do you do instead.

I'm told that nicotine takes about 2 days to clear your system, so in theory, give up for two days, and you're clear of the stuff - but it's not that simple of course, there is the memory of smoking, making you want another.

I know older long term smokers, and they say that "if only they could forget they smoked".

My mom hasn't had a cigarette in 4 years now. She used the patch and Nicorette gum. It's worked like a charm she said.

You need find something to press down the chemical reaction in the blood shouting "Put in here some nicotine!"
Being absorbed in something(exercise, game, playing) can make this.

If you really want to quit smoking try reading"The only way to stop smoking permanently" by Allen Carr it,s a Penguin books publication.I honestly didn,t believe it would work after 30 yrs of smoking about 30 a day but I read the book from cover to cover and on the last page it said give your cigs away which I did and havn,t had the urge since that was 2 yrs ago .Ive put on weight but thats something I need to work on now

its legal and easily available, you dont have to stand around on a street corner waiting for a man with a hat to get hold of it

It is highly addictive with physical withdrawal as well as psychological. Im not a chemist so i cant tell you exactly why but considering we all know how much damage it does to us and continue to do it then it shows how addictive the stuff is.

I'm glad to say I've never smoked but I know people who do and the majority tell me they wish they'd never started. My dad used gum when he stopped and he's not had one for about 2 years, though he does say he could quite easily light one up even now so I don't think the craving ever goes away

Herbal ciggerettes just don't have a buzz/kick to them. I tried them once and was bitterly disappointed. They were a bit like the fake ciggerettes I used to try and make out of leaves and light up when I was about 8.

I enjoy smoking sometimes.....other times I realise it's just a habit and how much time I waste just sitting and having a ciggerette. I have quit several times seriously and can honestly say that I didn't miss it. It was usually stress, or boyfriends who smoked, that caused me to start again.

Interestingly, ciggerettes have been shown in clinical trials to be very effective in treating IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). You are better off with IBS than lung cancer of course.

No place for me to talk to you about the health risks; you understand them as well as I do, and ignore them just as I do. All I know is, I never saw myself smoking away when I was 80. I just figured one day I'd get healthy and stop......
