Hello,

If carbon dioxide is the problem, and the problem is BIG, like everyone says, why not build a big solution and run some humongous carbon scrubber factories, take the CO2 out of the air. We did it in the navy on submarines. It would probobly cost less than the carbon tax and you wouldn't have to worry about companies cheating on you.

There are several things you can do:

1. Sign up for green energy with your local power provider if that is an option in your area. For example, I have wind power through my local provider, Con Edison.

2. Use energy saving lightbulbs.

3. If you own your home, use a natural gas oven instead of an electric one(unless you are using non-fossil fuel energy).

4. Join a large environmental group to put lobbying pressure on your government to offset the lobbying done by the oil and coal industries.

5. Ensure you have energy efficient appliances(i.e. do not accept a ten year old air conditioner from a friend instead of buying a new one; the new one will pay for itself in one summer on your electric bill)

6. Plant some trees. Trees absorb Carbon Dioxide (the leading Greenhouse Gas) and give out Oxygen. They also look nice and can bolster the value of your property if they are placed properly and you know how big a certain tree will be when it is fully grown.

7. Vote for people that do not have ties to the oil or coal industries.

1. So-called green energy is often subsidized. The price does not reflect the cost. You might want to check that.

2. Energy saving light bulbs contain mercury. Be sure to dispose of them properly.

3. We have a solar stove. It works good for a noon meal. We heat our water with a solar panel. We have a hybrid car, but Gramps still loves his 700 horse mustang. (or would that be mustangs)

4. Pressuring oil companies? Sounds like a waste of time to us, but an energy company in our trust fund makes petroleum from turkey offal. One plant is in Carthage, Missouri. If you go see it, let us know what you think.

5. Energy efficient appliances are good for the consumer. They don't do anything for the environment because the impact on the environment is due to the method of energy production, not the amount produced.

6. Trees are good.

7. Voting for people that express a negative view of any source of energy is probably not a good idea.

Also solar panels help to heat your home and also produce hot water thus lowering your dependants on burning gas to heat the water and also you can buy more energy efficient appliances such as the new refrigerators that use about one third of the electricity than the older less efficient ones! A bicycle is also good in not only saving you money but also saving our atmosphere as you are not burning fossil fuels!
