My dad has cancer of the asophygus and is suffering real bad...he cant eat and now is unable to walk..as far as we are aware he hasnt got it anywhere else at the moment ...the tumour is growing and slowly killing him..he is suffering muscle waste and malnutrition and is now having breathing problems..all the doctors can do is make him comfortable..i really have no idea what to expect now as i didnt think it would ever get so bad ...even the doctors cant tell us as it is an individual thing..im just asking if anyone has been through this with someone and if so what will happen ..will he slip away in sleep or what..im so scared to walk in and find him gone as i am his main carer..at the moment im awake all night with him as he calls out about every half hour xx

Well, my uncle died of liver cancer in 2007. And from what I've heard it went very quick. However, I did hear he was in a some pain.
They found the cancer in September and he was gone in November.
I'm sorry you are going through this.
see this is where my dad differs from what ive seen others go through..he was diagnosed last october and was a strong working man..he was told to give up work cos they wre trying chemo which just made it worse and he got so ill from it they had to stop it..next they wanted to operate but found it had grown too far down so was inoperable..he is slowly dying...i know it sounds awful but i wish it would go quick as he is suffering so bad with pain and all he does is lay there fading away..at the moment im awake all the time with him cos he cant breath too good and needs turning alot in bed and his back rubbed .

108/M/Im Walde, Spazieren, Connectic Join Date: Jan 2008 | My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, Feebs. I lost my own dad, a few years ago, to a different sort of illness, but the effect is the same. For me, it was as if the dearest old man, who understood me, my wife, and sons, suddenly was no more, and there was nowhere to turn for an understanding smile or the occasional snort of disdain. The absence is -- or becomes -- like a void or hole in the heart, that doesn't go away, but grows just a little bit smaller with each passing day.
