even if we could get the entire world to do a complete 180... kill off millions of people... strip back cars, factories, warfare, electricity, littering, waste-disposal practices, etc, etc, etc... our planet wont last much longer... it will in terms of human life-spans, probably thousands or a millionish years... but in terms of planet age, we've taken a significant chunk out of it simply by flourishing the way we have...

well, sadly, there isnt much we can do short of demolishing our way of life, nothing that will have a solid effect... just be glad that we're not the generation thats going to collapse...

i dont have any ideas at least...

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify our species. I realized that we're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but us humans do not. we move to an area, and we multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way we can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, we are a plague!

we just developed too far... we expanded lives too much, cured people that would have died had we not developed... we cant really go back tho... and without doing that our planet will die... it would eventually either way, but we help it a lot...

and fok... ur speech sounds agonizingly familiar... what movie is that from? its gonna drive me nuts...

I hate this place. This zoo. This prison. This reality, whatever you want to call it, I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell, if there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do, I fear that I've somehow been infected by it.

I seriously dont think scare mongering about the enviroment is the way to do it. Yes we have polution problems in area of the world. normally develping areas, which need to be what they are... however the world is getting better and some positive state of mind is needed.

But i only seem t hear lately some good news like... link [www.guardian.co.uk]
or link [www.tcpalm.com]

The planet is a massive breathing living world that has had alot more impact before Humans. it will survive millions upon million of years long after us.

I taste nice.

im not really scare mongering about it... just something i was pondering on... but i agree that its a living breathing thing... thats kind of a crazy concept... it will outlive its time the same way a person does... its conceivable that all planets were once alive... i really believe in our solar system mars at least once had some kind vitality... then it died of something...

and people really have been the unhealthiest species that earth has harbored... earth has had catastrophies, but thats like a broken leg... we are more like a sickness... and while the earth may survive for millions and millions of years... it will become too sick for our society to survive in much less time (in reguards to a planet lifespan, not a persons)

i think its best to not be too defeatest about it, i think if every single living person made an effort to conserve and protect the environment they live in then it will help and like the guy on the youtube clip says, spread the word and change policies.

we could never change enough to make an impact in terms of the planets lifespan... we may be able to in some countries, but some are so wrapped in poverty and war that they cant afford to think of the planet when the people are dying... we will never have every single person involved in saving the planet...

im not saying that we should do nothing... the steps that we are taking now are making definate impacts in how many generations will survive here which is great for humanity but a generation is nothing to the planet...

In terms of human life? I terms of life on planet earth, humans are pretty much the new kids in the neighborhood.

We may shorten the "life span" of humans as well as some other species, but in terms of life on planet earth...our destruction on the planet will be short lived.

Ants, reptiles and small rodents will most likely continue to live on planet earth for millions of years. microscopic animals and much of the life in our oceans (especially the deep oceans) will also survive.

all we are doing is trashing our own neighborhood and our own existence on planet earth. if we cause a ma** extinction, which we seem to be on the verge of, then it will just be one of a number of ma** extinctions.

the problem is humans have this inflated view of self worth...we think we are the end all and be all in the natural world (and many compare us to god...though that part is for a different topic).

so you dont think all of our pollution and things like the nukes weve dropped will have a greater effect of the planet? ants and insects dont do much harm to the world... they may outlive us as a species but that doesnt mean theyll have a greater impact on the health of earth than we have...

no. I think that we will have a greater impact on the enviornment...particularly as it applies to the life of the human species.

but, in terms of shortening the "life" of (or on) planet earth: life will remain and new life will evolve long after we have killed ourselves off.

in terms of life on planet earth both over the last few million years and over the next few millions years...the life of the human species will be a very small thing.

life was here before us and will be here after we are gone
