Either way, they are both scotish (BLAIR Scots Name Look It UP) england gets screwed becouse scots have an understanderble hatred of the english! ( I work with 2 scots bye the way) No scots should be alowed to run england, just as no english should be alowed to run scotland!

at the end of the day what the hell does it matter where they're from? He was born in scotland, so scottish by birth, he might not say he was scottish, like I was born in the north but I consider myself a southerner.

Personally I think it would be a real bad move for Scotland to become independant from England.

Scottish independance would be terrible, and the majority of the electorate know it. The SNP, if you remember, won with a 3rd of the vote, which means two thirds of us are opposed to independance.

We benafit from the union not just economically, but socially, and it is the social aspect that I fear we will miss the most. I'm a proud Scot, but i'm very happy to call myself British as well.

I am one of the first to support the rivalry between Scotland and England, but a seperation would be bad for us both. I blame the recent upsurge of the SNP under Salmond as the reason for this reinvigorated hatred of the English evident in Scotland. I don't hate the English, and it seems to me only recently that people's rivalry with the English has turned into actually despising them.

What can we possably get out of independance? We'd loose out on far too much for it ever to be worth it.

Interesting topic, personally I think it wouldn't really matter much! If Scotland goes independent they will just join the EU and give all their new powers to Brussels anyway. The biggest question is the Shetlands, they consider themselves British, not Scottish. Owing largely to their Norse ancestry, they have spoken of indendence in the past. if the union is disolved will the Shetlands go for independence?, and thats where the oil is! No oil, no money for Scotland!

When the Scottish pipe up and talk about "their" oil money going to westminster most Shetlanders get pissed off! If Scotland wants to stay out of the EU and keep its powers so Independence matters, they need to keep the Shetlanders.

I agree with the comment about the SNP. They have been milking nationalism to create a divide between England and Scotland. As a nation Britain has achieved many great things, and continues to do so. Why don't people concentrate on the great things we have achieved as a union!

lol around 20,000! they were talking about becoming part of Norway at one point! They spoke a language called Norn, and were ruled by Norway for five hundred years, so they do have a point I spose!

Yeh I think it was as high as 36,000 at one point in the 19th century! I don't know any Shetlanders myself, but Viking history interests me a fair bit! Well I hope no one leaves the union, I for one think most Scottish people have enriched the UK ,technologically, politically and culturally!!

Sad to say though there is a lot of regionalism/nationalism in the UK now. People are a lot less proud of the union due to its imperialistic past. Without the union though the world would be in the dark ages! If we did disolve our 300 year union I think we would regret it later!
