The old punk bands carried a tune in their songs.
Do you really think bands like ANTI-CIMEX, SKITLICKERS, G.I.S.M., or DISCHARGE worried about making music? On the back of some DISCHARGE records, it even states, "Noise not Music". I think there was bubble gum punk and hardcore punk during every time period of punk as it should be. Some was underground just as it is now and some was in the pop charts because it was accepted by the more mainstream public. There were a lot of angry bands during the late 70's and early 80's as is there was in the 90's and now. Whether you know about them or not doesn't mean they suck or are great. It's all about what you were/are exposed to. Being angry doesn't necessarily make you punk and playing something more acceptable to the mainstream style doesn't make you less punk. Well, I'll stop my rant anyway. | | |
