I was trying to have a better understanding of the theories/perspectives of psychology. I wanted to know what perspective would help explain each situation. Thanks

Here is the example:
Anthony feels as though recently he did not pay enough attention to his mother or spend enough time with her. As a child, he was very attached to her but when he grew up, he found her to be annoying and too involved in his life. Lately he is losing weight, cannot concentrate during the day, cannot sleep, and his having disturbing dreams in which his mother comes back to criticize him for being such a “bad son.”

Which perspective/theory is closest to Anthony’s feelings of guilt and depression?

Anthony has learned that his grandmother suffered from extreme depression as did his older sister, who committed suicide in her teens. He now wonders whether their illness might have played some role in his own depression.

Which psychological perspective/theory would be relevant to Anthony’s family history?

Feeling depressed, anxious, and preoccupied, Anthony has come to view his life as failing to be fulfilled in his work, family life, and personal interests. He spends very little time with his children, and even though he loves them, he feels that he would only make them feel unhappy. Fathers should not make their children unhappy. He can send them to good schools and buy them nice clothes, but he wishes he could give them more.

What perspective/theory best matches with the issues raised in?

Because of his constant feelings of guilt, sadness, frustration, and lack of fulfillment, Anthony has come to believe that he is at fault for the problems in his life. His lack of ability to concentrate also means that he is making mistakes on the job, and he even forgot an important appointment with a new client. Feeling as though his life has become boring and joyless, Anthony wishes that he could experience more positive emotions. He feels unmotivated to go to work, and as a result, his job performance is suffering. Now he is worried that he will be fired.

What perspective/theory would focus on Anthony’s concerns over his belief that he is a failure and other concerns raised in this section?

Anthony is clearly suffering from Depression and Low self-Esteem further to this Freud would have a field day with the mother - son relationship.

Anthony must take stock of his life and make some changes, maybe visiting a therapist would help as he clearly has some things that he need to get off his chest

Trying to have a better understanding?

Sounds suspiciously like "trying to do my homework without actually learning anything" to me.

seeing alienation as a pathological phenomenon must not obscure the fact that

hegel and marx considered it a necessary phenomenon, inherent in human

evolution

Wouldn't it be easier to be less complex? The majority of phycologic disorders such as depression of emptiness can be filled with simply telling theroretical Anthony he is worth something. If you express individualality with theroretical Anthony he will not group himself along with his sister and grandmother. To solve the families history of depression that is targeting Anthony. For his children's 'lack of fatherly attention' as he would believe, have him spend time with his children. As a result his overal happiness about himself will increase and the parnoid feelings about getting fired from his job should stop by my idea.
