Will rotted pine needles have an effect on my spuds? The dirt is lovely but has layers of almost rotted needles . Can I also use pine needles to mulch around them for weed control?

Pine needles tend to make the soil acidic. Potatoes require soil with a PH between 5.0 and 6.5 Acidic soil has a PH of 7.0 or less.

Ok, so a good thing I haven't mulched them with the pine needles then. I mixed in some sand and manure with the soil and planted. So I should be ok then?
