Just accept that the vast majority of Muslims are just like you and I, and that they are not all terrorists.

i think people should be able to believe in what they want, as long as they dont force non believers to believe what they do,

the beauty of it is that people may destroy someones body but their spirit and soul cant be destroyed, if someone desides not to believe then they shouldnt be forced to.

the human rights act states this and it applies in europe.

everyone should be an atheist or pagan then we can believe what we want to rather than religious nutters ramming it down our throats. i dont know if they still do but there used to be preachers in peterborough town center on mondays. christian ones like but i think they were proddys difference between them doing it and asians ways are asian religious prayers have that god awful screamy kinda music where matey sounds like hes got his knackers strapped in a vice british people are still very apprehensive of loud-in-public-people. hence why americans get a greeting like a fart in a spacesuit over here

As a muslim, let me clear this up. The Koran your friend read was
probably a translation unless they read fluent arabic. I can't and
read the translation, it does upset me quite often & your friend
is right. At the time of the prohet, p.b.u.h., poetry was popular
and an artistic way of keeping stories around. As muslims we believe
that the Koran was delivered to Mohammed, p.b.u.h. in a series of
revelations by GOD over time and recored word for word in verses
and books in the Koran. At the time it was the most beautiful piece
and considered a miracle by many. Let me get back to the negative
stuff though, it will say something against Jews for example, or
disbelievers... Now those specific words are "translated" from the
orginal meaning from sheiks in the sunni world. Keep in mind of all
the tension that's developed since the state of Israel. Look at the
dates of the translation!!! Now Jews was not the original word but
that original word meant "disbelievers of the messenger" (and it
does not say kill them) but they will not be in GODS favor. and
"disbelievers" a.k.a. "infidel" or non-muslim... is not at all
what disbeliever is! Because anyone who believes in the monotheistic
GOD is a believer, an atheist is a disbeliever. Who is anyone to
say that a Christian or other is a disveliever, we are not in the
position to judge and those people are falsly led! I really wish
that the English versions could be written by an American Muslim
so there would not be political motives. But Islam in general does
need to be more accepting of Christians and Jews and if we can't
pick apart the problems in our own faith I don't see how we can be
living up to the standards that the previous prophets set. Not to
go on and on. But Jesus, p.b.u.h. message was unique compared to all
the prophets before him and Muhammad , p.b.u.h. was also nicer than
he is portrayed because his successors were not all that nice causing
Islam to split in sevaral paths. His message was more strict but
it makes sense considering what was to come in the world. And at
Jesus time, p.b.u.h. it was soo vulgur that they needed someone to
teach peace and acceptence.

"although dont ya think that islam is one of the most intolerant races? they certainly come across as that "

o.k. as a convert to islam, to be honest...... YES!!! I have met Muslis from all over the world and generally
they view white americans with suspicion and do not engage
in dialouge about "issues" comfortably. From what I can
tell there is alot of racism in the U.K. against muslims
and maybe vise versa. I've noticed other cultures view
wester, specificly america as Conquorers and land theifs
& slave drivers. OH, and there is crazy racism in islam
itself but that is a whole nother thread! ( But I was
shocked and disheartened) These negative things though
are just examples of human error and mistake. God intended
us to make mistakes and strive for clarity in faith. Just
because others make mistakes doesn't make it right and
popular belief/gossip isn't fact!!!

If find it ignorant when you get certain groups of moderate religious people saying that their intrerpretation of scripture is correct and that extremists do not, in fact, belong to their religion at all because they are wrong. In religious scripture, which was written thousands of years ago, there is plenty of room for both moderate and extremist interpretations. Both of them are wrong, but that's irrelevant; the fact that anyone takes the teachings of primitive, long-dead cultures seriously means someone is going to get hurt, badly. Better to just keep our heads firmly in the present instead of living in the dark ages.

This is not aimed at any religious tradition in particular, but applies to practically all religions, including the one in question.

Well many muslims do take the teachings of the Koran literally but interterpretation is importand and what
I am saying is that the translators views are often
anti-western and are from Saudi Arabia and that plays
a big role in what it is taught and read. There are sheiks
from Saudi Arabia that determine rulings called "fatwas"
which deal with right and wrong in the modern world. Now
Catholics believe abortion is wrong always and the muslim
sheiks have derived from some verse in the Koran that
talks vaguely about reprodutction that GOD put soul in
the baby after 3 months and before that abortion is allowed, To me that is a perfect example interpreting it
in the WRONG way word for word to make it work for you.
They are supposed to be pro-life but actually the most
importand issues to them are palestine/israel and now Iraq.
As a muslim I don't look at Saudi Arabian thought as
a guide at all!!!!! They are the embodiment of faschism!!

Hm.

Think about the two largest terrorist attacks ever to occur on US soil.

One was perpretrated by Muslims.

But the other?

A white American ex-Army soldier who fought in the Gulf War and achieved an honorable discharge.

I must say it's quite disturbing and sad that "our side" has people who think "they're all terrorists" fighting for it.

I have to agree, here in the UK the majority of terrorist attacks that have occurred have been perpertrated by the IRA and the last i looked there were no muslims among them. It is recent events and media speculation that has led people to label all muslims as terrorists.

That said i do think that people fail to believe how destructive religion can be. I lived with a Hindu woman at uni and she was and had been dating a Muslim man for 4 years. Her family were unaware as her father would have disowned her had he found out. Furthermore On the ward where i work we have a cleaner who is muslim and she told me once that it is only because she and her partener live here in the UK that she does not have to conceal her face and walk behind her husband.

Now with all the speculation surrounding the possibility of the first black president i have no problem with the skin colour of whoever rules the world but it will be a cold day in hell before i walk behind my husband!

It is true that there are intolerant Christian denominations and Jewish, but they don't go about blowing people up because they consider it their duty to Allah.
Only the fundamentalist Muslims seem to kill people just because they are non-Muslim.
There could very well be tolerant, peaceful Muslims, I don't know, but it does seem that if there are, they don't speak up against those of their faith who are violent terrorists.
I believe that when one claiming to be a Christian commits a vicous murderous act, other Christians will condemn him.

In my point of view i don't really care what religion somebody believes in or what someones skin colur is but what i do have a problem with is when asians come over to England and get council houses then marry someone in pakistan and then bring them over to have about ten kids. In my point of view there are English people out there with no jobs sleeping on the streets and got no money, all because England is to over populated and theres no jobs or coucil houses left for british citizens anymore. I think that it should be stopped. What i also don't like is alot of people can't even walk the streets no more without getting terrorized, beat up or even stabbed and alot of it's all over a little thing called racism and i think it should stop.

like all religions, you find some good and some bad.

Something emotional
Something that's beautiful
Something that stands the test of time
Why are the simple things so hard to find
