Lithium also can cause thyroid problems (now I take synthroid, too) and kidney problems. I take extra potassium and quinine for the leg cramps the synthroid causes. I haven't had kidney problems but I am aware of the potential. My memory is shot anyway to what's the big deal? I still prefer being "sane" and as long as the lithium works and doesn't cause MAJOR problems--if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I may have to change meds someday but finding the right balance is so tricky I'm not going to push that day. All drugs are a trade off.
