Hi, I would appreciate a little advice about treating impetigo. Don't really want to use 'script antibiotics. I am an Herbalist and have lots of options, but that's the problem, can't make up my mind and don't want to start the wrong regimen. Just point me in the right direction please.

Hello. I am not a professional herbalist, but I do a lot of research into alternative medicine and herbs. From what I have learned, the best regimen is always to begin with strengthening the immune system. Echinacea, Vitamin C and Zinc, Olive Leaf Extract, Una de gato, Garlic, to name a few. Pau d'arco has antibiotic properties as well. Avoiding stress is important because as you know, it damages the immune system. As far as specifically for impetigo, the Mayo clinic site recommnends a topical antibiotic (Batroban) depending on how severe the infection. If it is a minor infection, a hygienic measure may be all that is needed, allowing the infection to heal on its own. The dangers that are involved if the infection should get worse is kidney inflammation or blood poisoning according to bodyandmind.co.za/healthweb. You should see a doctor and get on antibiotics if the infection does not get better soon.
