I do not know how long it takes to become one but I imagine they get paid loads of money.

Real architects get paid fairly well.. but the training is very hard and architects are known for working very long hours.

The architecture students at my university were known for basically disappearing into the building for the entire semester, as they were constantly working.

I am an architecture student in my 3rd year.... architects don't normally start out making a lot of money but you advance fairly quickly if you are good, and there is definitely opportunity to make lots of money. The training is very demanding....it is 5 years of school plus 2 years of interning to become a registered architect, and then more if you want a masters but thats not necessary. It is a great career if you are interested in it...very creative and although it is a lot of work, its not boring like most jobs.

If that's what you desire to do and desire to become then go for it.

the ones that make it get paid very well. Making it includes those working in a large firm and essentially designing a) roof systems b) toilet stalls c) gla** facades, d) models e) shadow studies f) impacty studies. Only 1/20 graduates actually stays in the profession and it s very tough as a profession. It s also 99.8% male. Look at Frank LLoyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe, Eriksson, Le Corbusier, Philip Johnson, Pei, Frank Gehry..for inspiration.
