I wrote this a while ago. Time to hear some thoughts on it.

I’ve been thinking a lot more about what I’m doing with my time and I keep getting the feeling that I’m miss something. Back in high school I worked with a Social Worker and helped a person deal with some serious problems. To make a long story short, I’ll just say my intervention was successful. We got her the right kind of help. She took the chance we gave her to get off the drugs, stop prostituting and, for whatever reason, listened to me when I tried to talk her out of shooting herself; Loudest *click-clack* sound I ever heard over a crappy phone line. She’s better now- has her own little family.
The social worker said I did pretty good under the circumstances and he believed that I had natural ability for that kind of work. I’m going to college for a masters in psychology now. Yeah, I want to get that degree but it doesn’t feel like enough.(still getting the degree) Yeah I thought about joining the military but if I did that I wouldn’t be me. I’ve got nothing against the military(got friends in 2 branches) or my dad. He was in the military.(as well as half the guys in my entire family) I just have to do something else and satisfy my need to make my own identity.
I’ve been doing reading about Close Protection/ Bodyguard/ Executive Protection Training(I’ve seen several names used) and I feel a great interest for it. I’m only 21 but, I’ve read the various schools training courses and I feel like maybe I’m already too old. Maybe that’s just my view and I’m compressing of time unrealistically in my mind. I have to be honest, I don’t exactly know where to start and I see this as a big decision. That’s why I took so long to explain the source and ask for your insight.

I thought of some little steps though. Small goals:

Train back up to running a mile
Work on team orientation
Get my drivers license just to have it(don’t have to drive right now)

The answer might not come to you so easily as just reading up on stuff, you might have to get out there and do activities related to your line of work to get a feel for it. Maybe internships, certain jobs, talking to people in those work fields so they can tell you things that aren't in the books.

Good job with the suicide thing, ever think about working for the suicide hotline?

Your small goals sound like a good start. The psychology degree would be a good fit with the Security training. I think you should contact some people/companies/training schools and look into it more. Find out how others got started in the work. I know it's important to find the career that satisfies you.
