describe gothic in your own words. .

some people always misinterprets the word and it is quite annoying. .

they always think that it is just a fashion statement. .

so, if you really know what it means, hit me back with a post. .

i am not really into gothic... but it seems to be really intersting and i think that it is really cool and unique... it is dark and creepy...hahaha...! being a goth is not only wearing black, playing metal songs, and screaming your heart out... it is the feeling of being alone and there is no one to help you...

that sounds more like emo to me.

I'm not really sure what being a gothic actually means, but one of my managers was a full on goth and she was into mythical things and was an active follower of the pagan faith. She was actually a priestess in that faith. I don't know if that's got anything to do with it

Metal isn't goth, not even gothic metal

Goth genre's include...

Goth rock
Post-punk
Deathrock
Darkwave

and goth isn't about loneliness, ordinary people can feel lonely, and goths can feel lonely but its wrong to assume all goths are that way because some may be.

Bye for now...

Goths, in terms of their membership in the subculture, are usually not supportive of violence, but rather with tolerance. Many in the media have incorrectly associated the Goth subculture with violence, hatred of minorities, white supremacy, and other acts of hate. However, violence and hate do not form elements of goth ideology; rather, the ideology is formed in part by recognition, identification, and grief over societal and personal evils that the mainstream culture wishes to ignore or forget. These are the prevalent themes in goth music

gothic personally is what u make it, whether its relating to faith or just social preference.
as a subculture, it kinda became mainstream in the 70's 80s with the rise of darkwave
it relates somewhat to the fashion, because its originally inspired by the victorian fasions also.
its not a case of 'meh im more goth than you :p' true goths will be goths for life regardless of what they wear, the best thing is goths will always be around long after emo has gone

good point delta62 urm , i disagree unfortunatly, i think emo will fade out soon because emo and goth are 2 totally different things i think personally, but if emo does continue on there fair enough but i think in terms of popularity emo will fade and if anything become a subculture like goth has,
but cyber goth is here to stay

i know what it means in my own words bloody expensive clothes for my son, always having my eyeliner and black lipstick(yes i wear black lipstick sometimes)pinched and having to hear slipknot, marilyn manson(although his o.k)being played full blast, and remembering to take all the chains etc of his trousers before they go in the washing machine,i told him it wasnt a new thing i used to dress and put make up on like siouxie and the banshees x

A great man once told me,
I was beutiful,
SO I MARRIED HIM.
Now he tells me every day.
