I am a big fan of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. It is a good sci-fi book that has some political undertones if you read into it enough. It is very well written and is an intriguing idea.

Also, I like the book The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. The Disney movie doesn't do it justice, not even close.
